Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

How satisfied are you with severance?

Opinions seem to be divided, some find the severance satisfactory and some not. I don't know what the situation is in competing companies in terms of severance packages, so I can't make a comparison. In fact, what interests me the most is whether it is possible to negotiate severance here?

I joined on a DXC contract - dreadful. I was stupid enough to believe DXC was the "digital company". Come back Mikey 1, at least you had some presence when you were spouting your BS. Mikey 2 is a pale imitation. Maybe that's why you got paid more.

This question makes limited sense as the answer is "country specific".

Most posting are little babies, contract ? We in the US don't have contracts and its a right to hire (and fire) state. Our severance is maximum 8 weeks after 16 years of service, 6 weeks after ten and it goes down from there.

It sucks I worked for a bank and got 3 months , plus 5 weeks of vacation pay and by direct manager took me on 3 hour lunches for the last 3 weeks.

Tupe only lasts for a short ish period (is it two years?), it doesn't last forever. The company is at will to change the terms of your contract at any time after that.. They just never did. More fool csc I guess.

The only people i know with massive redundancy packages (and i am talking about uk) are ones who came from CSC customers as part of an outsourcing deal and their contract terms remained as per their original employer. Csc never tried to change their terms to csc standard for whatever reason.

This combined with sometimes greater than thirty years continuous service can mean huge payoffs. Even for just technical people with middling salaries. I've seen those terms be one or even two months money per year of service, with termination bonus on top as well.

csc contracts were never anything like as good and dxc ones are basically UK legal minimum... One week per year served after two years, capped at twelve years. Which still might seem like a vast sum of money to say Americans but equally nothing much compared to some other European countries.

Certainly here in the UK there is no negotiation on severance, the terms are in your contract and that's what you get.

Someone told me that most US employment doesn't actually have a written contract, which I find a bit odd.

I'm in the UK.

People who have been here a long time have much better redundancy terms than people who joined in the DXC era.

I've been here a long time and if I were to be made redundant I'd get a decent payout, so I suppose I would be happy with the package.

I've not heard of anyone negotiating anything other than their contractual payment along with occasionally a small sweetener if DXC are asking for voluntary redundancies.

There is one case where I believe someone negotiated more then they were entitled for, this was, allegedly, down to them threatening legal action over the nature of their departure.

As always, I imagine the reality it rather different if you're perhaps an L4 or up manager, in that case maybe there is room for negotiation.
