The moment the deal closes, how long does it normally take to change the employer? And could an employee decide to not to work for the new company?
I’m considering not joining, and would like to know If there is something I’d need to accept / sign for this employment change, or The change would happen anyway even without my acceptance?

What happens to your pension? Does it transfer? Get frozen?

I'm an active DTV employee out of Los Angeles and know that TPG couldn't be any worse than AT&T's id--tic management. The trick is to stay until the wheels fall off so as to collect unemployment. There is the possibility things may improve but regardless our service is at the end-of-life phase, so we're looking at maybe five more years and the plug will be pulled.

If your job classification puts you into the DirecTV pool then you have already been mapped over to TPG. Look at your email - does it end with DIRECTV.com? How about your pay stub - doesn't say AT&T anymore does it? Prompted to order your new DTV uniform last month - that's a sign from above.
Your body and what's left of your soul has already been sold across the river. You quit tomorrow - you walk away with nada since you voluntarily left. No unemployment, no severance, - zero buddy.
You are now the property of Texas Pacific Group and that's all you need to know at this time.
Quitting now won't get you any unemployment
Quitting now might not work:
A) 2 week notice probably too much time
B) why would unemployment be paid ?
You are a Directv employee and no longer an AT&T employee the moment the deal is final. You service years are bridged. If you join Directv from AT&T after the deal is final, you are considered an outside new hire instead of a transfer.
If you want AT&T unemployment benefits you should quit today. That option goes away in the next 2 weeks.
Every day you show up for work is a choice. You may not think about it that way, but it's a life decision you're making there.

@op If your email and payroll company have been cut over to DTV you are basically a Directv employee today, look at your paystub.

It's a done deal. you are either part of AT&T or part of DIRECTV the only "deciding" you have is whether or not to quit. If you want to work for the other company you would have to get a new job there like anyone else.
