Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T sells its cloud soul to Microsoft

Another great win in a line of so many great victories for our great leader.

US communications group AT&T has thrown in the towel, selling its Network Cloud technology to Microsoft and moving its 5G stuff onto Azure.

Great move by Stankey to run the 5G network more efficiently.

The great thing about that network consolidation is that it’s not aligned with Leigh’s transformation. He is paying other vendors to do the work.

how many masters of computer science degrees are at ATT and they couldn't get a simple cloud business to work and they have to sell it to a company like microsoft that makes the worse desktop in existence.

Company has given up its destiny to fancy consultants. Network is setting off a big round of application consolidation. McKinsey will make the decisions, Tech M will do the development, employees will use the new ugly mess to run network. Customers will complaint and keep leaving. But, everything looks great on PowerPoint.

The title should read "AT&T sold its soul to Microsoft"!

it may be a blessing in disguise.

Sorry to the 250 Software Engineers, hate to see you get rebadged to MS, however it may be a blessing in disguise.

What a bunch of clowns - I thought we were to go back to basics ( which meant Wireless and Broadband?) or are we going back to POTS.
You send your network to MS, you send your data to MS, you send your core applications to MS - you send your billing to someone else - what have you left?
I dont know how technology can solve for lack of understanding the business we are in.

It is amazing that everyone at the top are all working fancy deals to "rebadge" themself without any clue on understanding the business or running it. Every one at the top is working on side hustles - check all the "executive" departures that land up at these so called "masterful agreements and partnerships"

Also notice " influx of a specific consulting or outsourced entity" under every group. If that is not proof enough that there is something shady - I dont know what else is. Even picking the right tools and technology is fraught with this disease.

glo+1bCkwkMu is 100% right. All the failures keep getting whitewashed by Stink with this idea that it was a strategic choice on his part to sell off DTV, Xandr, WM, and now the software network. He tries to gaslight everyone by claiming it was intentional in order to 'get back to our core business'.

So, what next? Yeah, let's sell off all the retail locations. Why stop there? The fiber network should also be dumped, since that has nothing to do with wireless phone communication. Certainly ATTTV has to go. Basically anything not 'core' to phones needs to go.

Stink is such a visionary.

" concentrate on core business", love to hear about details on the vital technologies that are being supported in house. Between Microsoft, IBM, Tech M, and others, there isn't much core business left. Stop buying into the management BS.

Why not outsource retail and business sales to Accenture? Pretty sure we can cut huge amount of costs there.

lol that cloud nonsense was Donovan's software defined networks. It isn't worth a dime. Good riddance. The new executives under McElfresh know it was a mirage. The network is about circuits. and infrastructure in the ground. Not some software nonsense. Build fiber and connect wireless to it for coverage. The rest just sell.

This is a disaster. T is dying even quicker than anticipated.

More agreements that allow them to concentrate on core business. Let others take care of the back end. And I'm sure Microsloft cloud folks have way more cloud experience than in house AT&T folks.

Stinky cannot manage to wipe his drool off his mug, why expect him to manage anything? Just another way of rebadging those pesky employees, overpay for an outsourced service, have to pay exorbitant charges for unplanned fixes and enhancements and leave a mess for his successor.
