Temporary win-win situation

When you came here, how long did you intend to stay? Did you intend to build a career here?

I have a feeling that a lot of people are looking for a job with the goal of staying in the same place as long as possible although switching jobs can keep someone’s career moving forward much better. Many people allow themselves to be exploited by the company, instead of realizing that every job is just a temporary win-win situation.

This is a great point to make.

I think traditionally... looking to buy a house or build credit, staying in one place made sense at that place in time. But maybe now the change of employer isn't what matters in those decisions.

In today's world, moving to a different company is sadly the most common way you will get a significant raise. Because not only do we get comfortable in our own jobs, our employers, even with the best intentions, become complacent with as well.

One thing is for certain, we are not bound to any one spot in life. If we feel that way, we have put our own selves in a box. Change is scary but it's much better if we direct it.

I came on as full time SrSSR. Considering the point when I came out of college (during the end of the Recession), I was just happy to finally get a full time job after a couple years post college of multiple part time jobs and 60-80 hour weeks. I wasn't really sure how long I wanted to stay. Then I got comfortable and thought I could make a career out of it. I got promoted and all seemed great.

Since then though we've had multiple restructures and the company has drastically gotten worse. I now know I wouldn't be able to stay here even if I wanted to for my full career. So I keep working here while I put out feelers and interview for other jobs.

I've been here for years now, but I never had a well thought out plan when I first came here as a part time worker.

I was favored for years when I was younger, then management changed, I got older, and it could not be anymore obvious how little this group cares about me as a person or a worker.

Awful, awful company and managers to work for.

Love the job when they aren't completely overloading me, and can't stand all the bias, nepotism, and favoritism.

They do t even try to hide it anymore.
