Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What do you think about this?

Amazon just dropped 8B on The purchase of MGM. Did T make a mistake spinning off WB too early? What does Amazon know that T doesn't know? I realize T will still own 70% of WB, but I have a feeling Stankey just got hoodwinked.

Amazon is in the process of becoming an ISP. Everyone uses their AWS cloud infrastructure which means they know what they're doing unlike AT&T. When released it will be cheaper and more stable than AT&T and cable can provide hence the building of content. Plus they have limitless resources (money and talent) than everyone else.
If Amazon can pull this off then T, Spectrum, etc. ISP services will be marginalized with heavy revenue and employee losses.

I hope the stakeholders and Board are watching this forum because you astute gentlemen have an amazing take on how this thing should be handled.

I think we should wait to see how it works out, then complain about how AT&T based on how it worked out.

Warner Btothers and MGM are completely different as it relates to content/rights. Warner is...was...the most respected, top notch studio in Hollywood. 9B is a fair price for what Amazon is getting with MGM.

Hold on here. The TW spin off is not a done deal. There is all kinds of regularity approvals that are required both here in the US and overseas.

Wanna make a bet that Stinky will be paying Discovery billions of $ when it does not get approved, just like Ratty did with TMOB?

All I know is that the spin will complete after I retire so I have a chance to get my lump sum before there is nothing left.

Amazon has more than $8B in between the sofa cushions, so even if this all goes bust, they can afford it without suffering any sort of pain.

T had to overpay and incur a ton of debt to try their stunt.

Add to that the fact that Amazon has a successful entertainment wing, and ... well, the difference is pretty clear. In strategy, success, and business,

T had to spin-off WM. JS would’ve kept it if he could. Issue is RS and JS put us in a debt ho-e we couldn’t dig ourselves out of. The large shareholders of T want a solid predictable dividend stock with limited exposure. Media is very high risk (and reward) that doesn’t make our major shareholders comfortable. Coupled with the amount of debt we have, it’s too much risk.

The funny thing about T-Mobile beating ATT in wireless is that their network is still much worse in almost every geographic area. The honest pricing and customer service make up for the inferior network. Customers know that T-Mobile will build out the network and beat ATT at a technical level eventually.

The problem with Stankey is that he perceives everything as a technical problem. He doesn't account for the people aspect of anything he does. The media pipeline and content engine wasn't a bad idea, but failing to understand the employee and customer experience of delivering and consuming it was. We failed at that.

Amazon has experience running a movie studio and streaming service.

Stankey did not.

It's really that simple.

We can assume our CEO made a bad decision just based on his track record.

AT&T is a premium brand, buy high and sell low. Live and die by the proceived “premium” status.

The board is sleeping at the wheel, banks are willing to lend at rock bottom rates and executives love to boast how much cash they are burning for fantasies. It is the perfect storm.

AT&T was short on cash. What did they get, $40B or $45B? 5G ain't cheap.
