Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Who is NOT leaving?

Outside of people who are a couple of years away from retirement, who is planning to stay here indefinitely? How many of you are looking at this as a long-term job? I know most of the new employees are usually looking to leave within a year of working here, but what about those who've been here for 10, 15 years?

@kac+1b2xVLR6- you mean the company changed pto to allow a max of 30 days. But anyone who had earned more than that got grandfathered in. SO.. I assume last yr was your 15 yr anniversary and the company did not provide the additional 5 days on top of the 30 you already acquired that was provided prior to the change? On top of everything you mentioned about the poor benefits, it also takes 6 yrs for new employees to be vested in the 401k as of a few yrs ago. p*ss poor!!

@wvf That is not even close to my benefits plan. My 401k match is better than that, I still have pension, and my dental and vision are covered. We must be on different benefit plans because what you say is not what I have. I am in ASDU.

Also they've taken away certain holidays that used to be guaranteed in order to have adequate phone coverage.

Medical and 401k is standard? Are you on a different compensation plan than claims? I know you mentioned you were outside of claims so maybe you get better benefits but in claims I've found that the medical and 401k offering here is total sh*t. Everyone I know who works in insurance at other companies have $1 per 1$ or more match for 6% contribution. Allstate doesnt even cover dental or vision anymore. They dont contribute to HSA to help out with the high deductible plans they offer and the 2000$ credit they offer barely covers basic med and dental premiums charged to the employee. They cut 5 PTO days for anyone who has maxed out at 30. I got screwed out of 5 addnl days last yr due that change. They dont even offer any kind of pension anymore and if you look over the past 15 yrs they cut benefit and retirement offerings 3 times. Not sure what other companies you worked for but this is pretty poor offerings for a company that pulls in a billion dollars profit every quarter.

I left claims last summer after 6 years there when I saw the disaster coming there. Was able to get into another department with the help if some friends there before they quit hiring employees from claims there. I am quite happy right now but don't know if I will be here forever. I would think claims employees would say the want out now while most other areas would say they would stay. Threats of layoffs are the only real negative for me right now.

I plan on staying long term. Been in underwriting for 3 years and love it. My pay and benefits are better than I had at Progressive. I can't control layoffs. If they happen they happen. At least we get severance and 60 day notices. I will be here as long as they will have me.

I am not at all for what senior leadership is doing to this company. I think Shapiro and others are a big big problem and need to be ousted ASAP. However most areas are not as bad as claims. I am not in claims and I never want to be in this company but most areas of the company are not that bad. Take away the threat of layoffs which I do think will be much lower this year based on the company learning from their mistakes and I really think most already 5+ year tenured want to stay put. PTO is great, medical and 401k is standard, pay ranges from slightly below to slightly above average depending on department and role (comparative jobs to mine at other companies for my tenure is less pay than what I make at Allstate but your experience may vary). This company has its problems and there is no doubting that this company can do better by its employees but most areas are not nearly as bad as claims and most areas don't really even recognize Shapiro to be honest. Also today's 18-29 year old workforce aren't designed for or built for making 40 year careers at any one place force themselves in any field or industry. 5+ years max and they move on typically regardless of pay and conditions.

I’ve been at Allstate 4 years now. The position I was in for 3 years got cut due to transformative growth and now I’ve transitioned to claims. The department I’m in, I know I’m ‘safe’ because Allstate badly needs IAs as quickly as their losing them. However I don’t feel I have the experience in my new role to even apply outside of the company, I barely know what I’m doing now—so I will stay. At least until the end of the year and have more experience if I haven’t died by then due to our overworked workload.
