Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

How cliquish is your store?

If you’re still with this awful company. Is your store completely driven by favoritism? Mine is. If you aren’t a twenty something female or one of the friends of the ASM, you aren’t getting promoted. Not that promotions exist anymore. Our store is a circlej--k where post grad part timers impress the management with their education while completely ignoring things like driving store sales, interacting with customers or attempting to grow our clientele by being actual booksellers with wide ranging tastes. Everyone here reads YA almost exclusively. They spend their days standing in a circle congratulating each other on their inherent greatness while lowly experienced employees do all the actual tasks. They also pick and choose which books to take to the floor based on what they like. Not, you know, putting ALL product out like every other retail job in the world. It is such a sh-t show at this point I just have to laugh.

That's funny, at my store they drive away most women, so much pettiness and backstabbing. It's much better working for a guy.

Not in NC

At our store one of the managers thought they were good friends with the SM and asked for time off weeks in advance and when it came to the time, the SM told her no. She gave her notice that second. You can't trust any of them, they're worse than Selena in Gilead.

Union Square is the most cliquish, same group of people with an asm who have known and worked with each other for years, all have been responsible for getting each other promotions and all that BS, all constantly lap dogging behind the store manager, playing favorites. But things have changed now that there are no more merchandise managers they no longer have the clout they once did and aren’t as close anymore so who knows but when I was there that group was a nightmare, very immature.
