Wow, just started working for this company as a MBA a few weeks ago and can't believe the new hiring system. I have been assigned to work with other MBA's in nearby stores to learn this new system and taken more online training and attended more Teams calls than any system should ever require.
I just got off a call where our regional team celebrated that every store in the region (about 160 stores) hired like 60 people last week when there are almost 4000 open jobs. What the heck is going on here, I thought Macy's was this big, professional company and find myself in the surreal world where there is a huge problem and everyone seems to be ignoring it. I may be a MBA, but I don't have a college degree, but my calculator works just fine. If we have 4000 open jobs and are hiring 60 people a week, probably not a reason to celebrate and pat ourselves on the back.
I was told about this site from the other MBA's I work with who are so frustrated that one just quit and another went on LOA because they are so stressed. So Macy's, here's how to solve the current problem, it won't cost much and will only require senior leadership to swallow a little pride and admit that the new system is a failure. This advice comes from a proved business professional, my Uncle who runs a gas station and it's free, so listen closely.
1st - Purchase pads of applications for the stores, they cost about $5 a pad if you have them printed in bulk. If you want to fix the problem quickly, just send out an application PDF and have the stores print them.
2nd - Do the same thing with I-9 forms.
3rd - Allow stores to actually use them to hire employees, maybe invest in hiring signs that direct people to actually talk to someone in the store instead of scanning a QR code and going through the email spamapallooza hiring system.
That's it, you can thank my Uncle Stan the gas station owner for the free advice, he doesn't have the turnover we do at Macy's, but when he has an opening it takes him a day or two to post, interview, and hire someone. We should try it (can't be any worse than continuing to wait for the Phoenix to rise from the ashes).
Oh, and by the way, perhaps not the best idea to have the regional leaders giving the direction for MBA's and Managers to be texting candidates from their personal cell phones asking them to check their email, we now have weird candidates calling and texting us at all hours of the day and night (on a more positive note, I now have an offer for a date and I didn't even need to swipe right).
