Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

How to fix the Phoenix

Wow, just started working for this company as a MBA a few weeks ago and can't believe the new hiring system. I have been assigned to work with other MBA's in nearby stores to learn this new system and taken more online training and attended more Teams calls than any system should ever require.

I just got off a call where our regional team celebrated that every store in the region (about 160 stores) hired like 60 people last week when there are almost 4000 open jobs. What the heck is going on here, I thought Macy's was this big, professional company and find myself in the surreal world where there is a huge problem and everyone seems to be ignoring it. I may be a MBA, but I don't have a college degree, but my calculator works just fine. If we have 4000 open jobs and are hiring 60 people a week, probably not a reason to celebrate and pat ourselves on the back.

I was told about this site from the other MBA's I work with who are so frustrated that one just quit and another went on LOA because they are so stressed. So Macy's, here's how to solve the current problem, it won't cost much and will only require senior leadership to swallow a little pride and admit that the new system is a failure. This advice comes from a proved business professional, my Uncle who runs a gas station and it's free, so listen closely.

1st - Purchase pads of applications for the stores, they cost about $5 a pad if you have them printed in bulk. If you want to fix the problem quickly, just send out an application PDF and have the stores print them.

2nd - Do the same thing with I-9 forms.

3rd - Allow stores to actually use them to hire employees, maybe invest in hiring signs that direct people to actually talk to someone in the store instead of scanning a QR code and going through the email spamapallooza hiring system.

That's it, you can thank my Uncle Stan the gas station owner for the free advice, he doesn't have the turnover we do at Macy's, but when he has an opening it takes him a day or two to post, interview, and hire someone. We should try it (can't be any worse than continuing to wait for the Phoenix to rise from the ashes).

Oh, and by the way, perhaps not the best idea to have the regional leaders giving the direction for MBA's and Managers to be texting candidates from their personal cell phones asking them to check their email, we now have weird candidates calling and texting us at all hours of the day and night (on a more positive note, I now have an offer for a date and I didn't even need to swipe right).

I was a MBA and just left after 15 years of service. I was in a very large volume store and the job is just too much. Communication is bad, morale is bad and everybody is stretched thin. What was in place before March was much better, but this is obviously the first step of what they have planned so they can eliminate more jobs. When AST was introduced in 2010 there were so many responsibilities and big part of the store operation. Now, the responsibilities have been cut so much and they have AST's just running around the store. It is a thankless job. Take a look at macyjobs.com, and look how many MBA and AST jobs are open in the country. The turnover is incredible in the company, but they act as if this is the career of a life time. If you can, get out!!!!!!!!!!! Even my store manager with over 20 years is currently looking. The company wants more with fewer staff. Macy's is a horrible place to work!

Lol. Was a Senior Manager for Macys for 28 years. 28 years of unequivocal dedication and trust for this company. I felt secure and was part of the Macys family. Then, without notice got laid off last year....never had a bad review ever! Always willing to go the extra mile for this company. But, it's a sh-t show now and they don't care about anybody. Good luck....this is what Macys is now. Snake with its head cut off. That's what happens when they let go of all their talented veteran employees and hire yahoos off the street to save a buck.

I agree that it wasn't done deliberately. That's the sad thing, those who selected this were hoodwinked. We have had other Oracle products for years, I think the interface with HireRight and their own website failures are to blame for a lot of the problems. Should have stuck with Equifax. Every week there's some posting about this or that problem with HireRight. And we continue to have the same problems we had in early March.

Yeah, stall the hiring system and there wasn't any other way to do this than create this issue. Give me a break, no organization would do this on backwards hiring on purpose.

True but we are talking about Macys here which is deceitful and down right dirty company with zero morals and only cares to look like a socially acceptable company to the masses yet it treats employees like criminals and complete dirt. the hiring system is deliberately failing to tell people this is this issue not the many jobs they have open.. its all a show.. just like the stock price.. research who was buying it when it hit 6 bucks.. it wasn't outsiders it was everyone who worked at macys pumping it up and dumping it. then they got some polish billionaire to pump and dump it.. have you woken up yet?

Omg. You said what we are all feeling but we can’t dare say it. I’ve been with this company over 10 years and I too thought it was going to be a fantastic company to work for and it wasn’t then and it isn’t now. This system is horrible!!!! I too have considered quitting. Call after call on this system. Then now other calls on MBA responsibilities with profit and loss information. And I have absolutely NO UNDERSTANDING about any of this and feel like a failure. My store is small and m used more as a CSX than MBA. I don’t gave time to look at all these reports yet alone study them to try and understand them in the first place.

Every day I consider resigning. I’m miserable.

Pads of applications and I-9's? And you are a MBA? Yes, things are horrible right now but we don't need to go back to 1995. What we had up until March worked just fine. Get a grip.

@man+1bn2NeoMF; Reflexis as well! Costly when management and HR constantly have to manipulate to meet demand.

Dear Uncle Stan,
Macys is a corrupt deceitful company whos only trying to stall the "hiring " process to save a buck and to look like they have 4000 jobs in which they do not... hiring 60 people a week is FAKE ! AND also 100 people A WEEK ARE quitting .!!. Everything you say is logical, sensible and makes clear path to fixing a problem.. but Uncle Stan Macys doesn't operate in a logical , sensible , reasonable way. Macys is all about "show" and no real actions using buzz words like Phoenix and Polaris Yet the same kicking the can down the street goes on. and nothing changes... so save yourself and find a better place to work
