Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Wells Fargo is targeting older employees

My team has been hit hard in the last few years. It has changed significantly. The biggest change? Our average age has gone down from around 40 to around 30. That is not a small or negligible change. I am now the oldest one here and I'm 49! I guess another year and my days will be numbered as well.

I'm 23, g-y, and black.

Also, I identify as a diferent gender every day of the week. And I have blue hair and a nose ring.

Don't know what you all are complaining about. WF is Great!

As an employee who's approaching 54, I don't think the company's purposefully targeting older employees -- at least from my vantage point. I DO think it's targeting higher paid employees, who frequently just happen to be those who've been around longer and are naturally older. In other words, if you're seeing older folks being laid off more frequently, it could be just a by-product of the company's approach cost-cutting.

That being said, older employees may not be experiencing disparate treatment, but there's a potential argument, I think, for disparate impact.

Just stupid statement on the topic. Most people I known that got laid off were relatively younger (20’s and 30’s).

Every corporation these days is focused on share price and short term, quarterly results –– the easiest way to cut expenses is to fire older/tenured talent and hire younger/cheaper talent.

Career windows can close quickly if you have not climbed to the top of the corporate ladder.

You really think those clowns are capable of getting anything done? You definitely have more faith in our elected officials than I do.

Well, call yoyr congress critter.

Their job is to represent you.

This bank – and all their peers – are working ovrrtime to fukover americans.

Push back.

Call ALL your congressional represenatives.

Tell them to do something about offshoring.

Remind them you vote.

Remind them if they dont take on this issue they wont be in office long.

If MORE americans would hold their elected represenatives responsible we wouldnt be in this mess.

CEOs have a giant seat at the table because quite frankly americans are poor participants in the political system.

The less you participate the more CEOs like charlie get away with their shtfukery.

Call your congress critter.

Call them today.

I won’t say older employees, but I will say employees with tenure.

All the new leaders talk about two things incessantly so you know it is collusion and what the plan is.

  1. Push automation
  2. Leverage the offshore model more

It’s all about being cheap. Quality is no longer a consideration.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out who that affects more.

For the person who got job duties taken away this happened to me almost 3 years ago. I guess they thought I would quit but I didn't. Well now they keep trying to have me do the duties they took away but don't want to pay me for it. Those duties are a level above me now. I have no issue doing those duties but not if they are not going to pay me or promote me for doing them. That is the issue you get tired of being used when they get themselves in a pinch.

To All you 20 and 30 somethings one day you will be where we are but you will have to work until age 70. I am in my 60s and yes I know how to send an email as we waited in line to use one computer when they first were used in the office. Most of the the younger ones in the office are either to busy chatting it up in their cubicles with friends or on their phones. So I have to stay for a expense called Health Care Insurance. Remember your turn will be coming so don't be so judgmental.

Every company targets older employees.... some don’t even know how to use email... if one isn’t willing to change .... the company must change without them!

I agree 100% – as people who have been at the bank longer make more it saves them money to let the long term people go and bring in more junior team members who cost less. There is a lot of knowledge and experience leaving the bank through lay offs. It is very sad

I’m also 49, and a straight white male. Been at WFC for over 20 years. They transferred all of my responsibilities to other teams several weeks ago, and my manager is now avoiding me. I’m literally just sitting here waiting to hear my fate.

Why WOULD you deal with this mess if you were close to retirement? Despite the B.S. they want to spew, it is a mess. It’s just corporate musical chairs and the music doesn’t stop.

That's not the case across the company. I've seen a decent mix and it's very random. I've seen older people keep a job but didn't want to deal with the change so they just retired.

I believe it to be the case as well. Unfortunately for the younger crowd, Charlie has to offset every older person with a younger person so his discrimination can’t be challenged in court.

At WFC, everyone loses except for Charlie Scharf and his cronies.

It is real obvious to anyone paying attention. Going cheap. Indians and kids right out of school. They will get what they pay for. Sad.
