Know what the social scene was like at ATT in Dallas? Many people like to have a good time, clubs, happy hours, weekend trips?

I read and re-read the original post and it doesn't look like the poster is asking about advancement or the work experience. It seems they are asking about the social atmosphere. There are a lot of different groups that hire almost no one except the 'fresh-out-of-college' applicant. Those groups are all classified as "management" but they do not supervise anyone. Those are the groups to apply for where you are most likely to find others that have not started families yet and are just beginning to start their lives. Company sponsored events were stopped back in the 80's but there are plenty of young employees that get together outside of work. But stay in those 'newbie' groups, when you have actually settled in a lot of that seems to go away. One small piece of work advice, the level that you hire in at is very likely the level you will leave at so choose wisely.
deep breath BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH snort hehehehehehehehe
All are great questions to ask your interviewer. By doing so, it shows you intend to be a well rounded, life/work balanced potential employee. Welcome aboard, first highball is on me!
I used to drink at lunch A LOT DAILY before I retired from t as did hundreds or thousands of t employees. Needed to as working at t under Whitbo and Handy Randy would drive you crazy if your didn't self medicate. Under the Stink? Can't imagine being sober.
There's plenty of restaurants, bars, good people elsewhere.
t is only for the UN– UEMPLOYABLE!
Most college hires come in as sr specialist, top of L1, possible to spend many years there as promotions are a few and far between. Possible to L2 or L3? Sure, it will a lot of positioning and finding the right executive “mentor”, getting on the right teams, and spotlight recognition, etc. If you are into self promotion, this is the game for you. If you are the type that work hard and have your work speaks for itself, you will get lost among the self promoters.
run far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far away as fast as you can. you won't regret and you will be so much happier. so many better companies outside of the cesspool known as att. when I left att could not believe how much better other companies are ran and how much nicer everyone is at other companies. since I left att i have been at two companies and have never heard the word layoffs since I left. I was at att 18 years and wish I left sooner. life is too short for att.
@1 fec: "a young person with 2 – 3 years experience as a L2 or L3". Dude are you delusional? No WAY a person with even an advanced degree will ever make L2 or L3 with only 2 – 3 years experience here at T. There are people who have been at T for over 20 years with advanced degrees still level 1's and 2's. Quit spreading the manure around.
Chill, Dude. Responded to the earlier Cruz comment....Who’s hateful? Check the mirror, dude? That lady in ga is a nut job, though. Peace, man.
‘Having T on your resume is like having a low GPA...’. ‘Stinky in charge’. ‘You’ll start drinking at bars.....to forget how much you hate you job’. Trying to transfer your feelings ???
Take these pathetic comments at face value.
Reading the comments.....sounds like these people need to retire or quit. Not everyone views things from the same prism. Whoever would suggest that a person with 2–3 years experience as a L2 or L3 as a waste of time or Insignificant on their resume is sadly attempting to denigrate many opportunities ATT offers college grads. There are tons of opportunities that young people can take advantage of at ATT, in spite of the negative rhetoric spewed on this site. Understand if your work experience has left you bitter and angry, but, Dude, it’s not like that for everyone. I wish the poster good luck.
Hey....the OP is making up comments about the women getting ‘screamed at’....what a stupid comment. Look, TX has crazy government representatives like Cruz, but calif has the weirdo Nunez and k–, MM. And OMG GA has that goof ball MTG,,,,,,!!, But the question was: Does Dallas offer fun, cool things for 20 somethings. The answer is, yes, even though there residents might be represented by a bunch of loons. Just sayin.
If you are 20 something, has a MBA or other advanced degree, and needing a good place to start your career. T isn't for you. Sure, you can listen others here about the hype and party scene in Dallas.
Having T on your resume is like having a low GPA by goofing off freshman year and working double time to catch up later. Sure, you can work for 2–3 years and move on, you will on the defensive about the opportunity cost to future employers. If that is not enough of a liability, go ahead, jump in and see how long your sanity will last. These are the best years in life, party, get lucky, all that, just don't squandered by working for T.
Worst company in Dallas work for! Actually, they were rated the worst run company in 2020.
It's embarrassing to say you work for them as they are comptely morally bankrupt, treat employees terrible, have zero respect for people, but care only about numbers. If you are female, please know you will be working for a company where the CEO degrades women if they offer an opinion that differs from his own, and will literally scream at you at the top of his lungs during a high level meeting, or simply cut you off and hang up the call. Oh, but demands you attend diversity & inclusion meetings. Such a hypocritical, shameful bunch!
sure come to Dallas and hang out all day on Quauntum. You seem like the type that will like it, you might actually put those social skills to use with it and find some pals on the social networking site they make us now do reviews on.
Does the OP realize that he's talking about Dallas, Texas? As in Texas filled with Texans? As in anyone–can–now–carry–a–g–n–without–a–license Texas? As in we–keep–electing–Ted–Cruz Texas? As in sundown–cities Texas?
No job is worth that.
If you take a job with this company, you’ll definitely want to start drinking at bars to make yourself forgot how much you hate your job.
Yes, lots of opportunities to meet people, music, tons of happy hours galore and a number of corporate sponsored events, too. Good area for 20 something to enjoy. Good luck.
As far as Texas towns, my preference is Austin, but Dallas is okay.
I hope you love flat land and 100 degree heat. No thanks
Several on my team meet 2–3 times a week at different hot spots in Dallas. Always a great time, great food and drink almost always. We socialize with employees from other companies, mostly the younger set like us. A few times I wondered how I got home, just don't remember. Have had a few successful hookups too!
What ridiculous comments. Guess what? ATT hires a lot of salaried, college educated young people at very competitive salaries. Many of them stay 2–3 years, grow and develop skills and move on...They’re not looking for a lifetime job, nor are they jaded and angry. I met a recent new hire, MBA grad, moved from the MW to Dallas and was very much enjoying his first 2 years. So here’s this: Ignore the noise from the disgruntled, old, tired, and frankly jealous cranks. They’re just jealous because you’re young and have a lot of years to work, change careers, and live life. Dallas can be a fun city, and ATT can help you kick off a career.
Dallas is fun. A lot of places to eat and drink. Deep ellum is a 10 min walk from the office. A lot of young people. Best of luck.
Hahaha, heading home early every day, no wonder the company is in so much trouble!
ignore the haters – its a good first job.
depends on qhat deptment. most people i know in Dallas have a long commute and head home early.
Run Forest, run!
How can you consider interviewing with T with. Stinky in–charge? Did you read how the megalomaniac treats T employees? You like abuse?
"Social scene"? You are mistaken T with a decent company. Culture and good time can be had where people are confident about their employment and leadership.
Management will keep telling you employees are the most important assert and Stankey unloads asserts without a second thought. He argues that years of loyal services means nothing and "what have you done for me lately to add value?" It is ironic, consider the billions squandered, we ought ask Stank, what have you done for the company lately and why are you still here.
Interviewing for a position at AT&T and youre commenting on the layoff site. Does not compute! If you are still considering T as your next employer after reading all the comments on this site, You may want to check your sanity level!
You are just want they want. They will string you along for about 10 years and your salary will grow 1-2 pct each year until they yank the rug out from you and kiss you goodbye. In the meantime, downtown Dallas is boring. Most of your co-workers will not only avoid the office, but when they do they will have to leave early to get to their families in the suburbs. No one lives in downtown unless they are young trust fund kids or coke addicts.
As a first job T might be a really good choice – provided you keep in mind that this is a very poorly run company that always makes the employees suffer from the senior executive incompetence. Benefits have been obliterated over the past couple of years, and the prospect of T being a safe job is nonexistent.
Take the gig, try and gain as much relevant transferable experience as you can, and move on to something more secure, better run, and with a brighter outlook.
Don't say you weren't warned.
Keep looking. Or take the job and keep looking. This is a stop on your way not a destination.
Does not matter, 1 day or 45 years, Stankey has made it crystal clear, no one is safe!
You have it all wrong, most employees are in grave fear of being laidoff. The days of social gathering has been forever tanished by Stankey. Employees are focused on saving every dime and could care less about the social aspect. You should be more concerned with being a productive asset to T rather than who you can party and yuk it up with.
Run! Run away now! Run away fast and do not look back. Don't interview in this cess pool.
