Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

CISO left, he wasn't fired

He moved over to iCapital as CISO. I find this more disturbing than him bring fired.

This means he was looking for some time now like the rest of us.

A new CISO means new thrash and even more reorgs. It is going to get difficult soon I think.

Gary is a clown, and iCapital has him leading the Infosec program.

SVB and Ex CISO were a perfect couple together. Just like in that movie Du–b and Dumber. Dumber is gone. I wonder when it will be Du–b’s turn.

The press release misspelled its own company name (Capital instead of iCapital) on their website. Glad to know they are so attentive to details.

I do kind of wonder, if he didn’t leave of his own volition, did they intend to bring in a replacement to make the systems more secure, or to make things easier for the developers.

I disagree with 1 of the posts below on the previous CISO being a 5th string quarterback.

He's more like a waterboy...

Baich left some big shoes to fill and it’s can’t have been easy with a direct boss who didn’t understand tech or appreciate security and then a CEO in cost slashing mode. I would think a small fintech company would feel like an improvement,

The previous CISO was the bottom of the barrel choice. The banks top choices did not want anything to do with this place. Hence, they went for the 5th string quarterback.

ICS has been in decline since Steve Brown and his original principal engineers left. Baich did well getting funding and scaling. But a decline in leadership has been on going

The true tell tale sign if there was animosity between GO and Saul will be if Saul likes/comments on GO LinkedIn post about the new job. So far he hasn’t. And Saul is very active on LinkedIn, liking almost everything post about WF there is.

I don't know if Saul hired him or the BoD hired him, I don't know how things work at the executive level. But in the news release about him being hired, they did have Saul quoted, and presumably he at least had some input into his hiring. But Saul is from JPMC and Owen is not, and maybe that makes a difference.

What Chainsaw is doing is keeping low performers as no other company wants them. Their all yours Chainsaw! Push out all skilled workers as they have no issues finding jobs anywhere.

Try not to break any laws in your process! this will keep you the top stagecoach organization in the world, only if anyone still used them! Maybe look into the lack of demand in this next year.

Remember Charlie's aim is for low performers to leave on their own, he doesn't want to pay them.

@1qap+1ar9oKjX very interesting; doesnt look like he has been there that long. They definitely need someone with the cloud, microservices and technology background to keep costs down and move company in the right direction, unless the plan is just to unload it. Not sure on the ciso replacement, but I am guessing this has been in the works. I don't think someone would hire a head of access mgmt for CISO, sounds like your right on this too.

Strange how Warren Buffet dump all the stock last year and move on too.

@rbb+1ar9oKjX, who is the replacement, Saul? I am not sure why they made Saul Gary's boss. Seems they should have been at same level based on title.

Maybe cause Saul and Chainsaw both have grey hair and are questionable on other areas.

sounds like he was getting the torture tactics too, I know I got some of it at my low salary level. This place is brutal and don't care they break US laws. Anyways i got a better job and will be dropping my 2 weeks.

Pretty scary this is still happening in 2021.

ICS is giving me a really bad feeling now. The wrong people are getting promoted and the wrong people working on initiatives or CAs, with the knowledgeable people kept out of the loop. The project staffing now is really not good and I’m a little concerned they’re pushing the smart (expensive) people to the side for a reason. I’m not sure what to think about a CISO leaving this early in the game.

@vod+1ar9oKjX – let's see:
Better benefits
Greater influence and autonomy
Growing vs stagnate business
FinTechs pay well, much better than WF. Fintechs use technology, unlike WF, so they can do more with less.
Family/collaborative environment vs. Hunger Games environment.
Anything else?

To the contrary, in a company of 500 you get a lot of autonomy and a lot less bureaucracy. I built my career based on that. If you walk in hungry and have good ideas you can rapidly gain a ton of experience across the organization. It can be highly exciting and highly rewarding. You do have to be a motivated and driving individual but you don’t typically find them here at Wells.

people would leave the 4th largest bank cause they work from the 1900's, people are toxic, they use bait and switch tactic, pay sucks, no promotions, technology non existent, no strategy.

The company that he left for has less then 400 employees. Leaving a company that has over 260k employees to a company with less then 400. I strongly doubt he left on his terms.

Just because someone has been at a place a while doesn’t mean they don’t come up with new ideas. Only young arrogance would think such a thing.

Well – who wants to be CISO at a company with technology from the 1980’s who is in severe cost–cutting mode? I wouldn’t want that responsibility attached to my name either. You have to find a way to protect customer’s sensitive information and accounts with a combination of a rotary telephone plus a VCR , which has been updated with a beeper and a Walkman.

You never know with these things. Could be that the competition threw more $ at them, or better benes/perks/location, or personality conflicts between them at their peers/boss, or––as others surmise––that they see the writing on the wall and are abandoning ship. There's really no way to know without more information. I don't find it all that shocking considering that this new wave of execs has no long history with the company and haven't built up any loyalty, subconsciously or otherwise, to the company/job/coworkers. Like many ICs they change jobs like they change shirts. The reasons are pretty diverse.
