Unfortunately, it's next to impossible to find out how much headcount AT&T has hired or contracted for in India. I know of entire departments more or less wiped out in USA via having all of the work done in India. These were previously 1st level and 2nd level USA management jobs. India wages for the replacements are about 1/5 of the USA loaded wage rate. It's a very big number overall in the company, which re—s well hidden via using contract workers outside USA. The jobs lost were in USA, and there were many. Want a rough idea of how many? Go into webphone and search for first names priya, rahul, ramesh, amit. You'll get a vague sense of the numbers. I expect this post to be deleted by big T soon, because it speaks to the truth.

In 2010, 215 of our IT employees were outsourced to an overseas contracting company to support about 120 applications. It was a clandestine agreement made by five IT Executive Directors (EDs) and kept secret for a long time. I was one person that stayed with T to support the transition. Only thing funny about this was that the agreement was so secret, even the five EDs weren't aware that they to were being transferred to the outsourced company and never saw it coming; totally blindsided. Their jobs were retitled to "Delivery Managers."
Anything can happen at T.
They guys in India bellyache a lot less than the guys in USA.
This is business as usual, T isn't the only corporation off-shoring the more menial tech jobs.. they'll keep doing this until Rpa (office automation) is equivalent to low level tech worker.. Of course any savings goes into the pockets of the executives.. C'mon why does everyone pretend the T of 2021 is like the T of 1970s its certainly not, the world has changed and American companies, will always chase profit and ROI , regardless of worker happiness. Honestly I just wish they were more upfront about it, all the rah, rah we're a team bu—t is what's sickening.. c'mon quit insulting people's intelligence, and just tell it like it is.
So people can make up number of job being offshored.
I just don't understand how jobs are moved to countries that don't have high ATT spend.
If your concern is with all off shoring policies, don’t leave out Eastern European countries that have a solid foothold in American businesses. There are many ATT Eastern European badged employees who’ve quietly assumed jobs previously held by US employees. Again... cheaper labor. Add those to your spreadsheet.
remember in early 2000's managers showed stank and rand that IT can be done cheaper with in house folks instead of outsourcing. guess we all know the results of those reports.
stank and rand have created a cesspool and are being rewarded for it. with all the project veritas that has come out about cnn it is only fitting that they own cnn now. two pees in a pod.
No need to search for Indian-sounding names (who may be U.S. citizens for all you know). Dump webphone to an Excel spreadsheet and count by location. A star in the 2nd column indicates a contractor, so those are easy to count, too.
And now T owns CNN so they can air stories how we need more America has a tech labor shortage and how the Amit's of the world can be our savior.

Yes, companies like ATT are responsible for the demise of the multitude of loss jobs. It’s corporate greed AND the rigged tax code (Reagan’s failed policies as an example) as well as corrupt mergers/acquisitions and monopolies that have gotten the American worker in this position. Of course, corporations continue to move work off shore. It saves them money. Period. So is it fair to point out the non-American names in webphone, but not call out the very politicians and policies that got us in this mess? Remember the last administrations tax cuts? What a boon for corporations but definitely not for the American worker. Place the blame on politicians and voters who support self defeating legislation; rather than a worker simply trying to do what you’re doing—earn a living.
Yes 1/5 US wages but it takes 3 AT&T people today (instead of the 1 that did it prior) to constantly tell them (Accenture) how and what to do. Do the math..No cost savings...
