Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Does my spouse keep my retiree healthcare if I d-e first?

I am "management," considering retiring end-of-year to keep my vested retiree health package.

If I d-e first, does that package d-e with me, or can my spouse continue to receive the benefit?

I know, I SHOULD NOT be asking strangers this vital question, but, so far, I cannot seem to get a straight answer from Benefits or Hewitt, so am asking everybody I can to try to get closer to any answer at all.

Thanks for any help!

Best thing to do is take out the largest term life insurance policy on yourself with your spouse as the beneficiary. This is one way to provide them with some financial help.

I would refer you to the Summary Plan Description for the Former employee health care plans, on the benefits web site. However in short NO coverage for pre-65 ends 6 mo. following de–h of the retiree. Same with post 65 benefits. Lots of discussion in the facebook retiree's group site.

Healthcare for your wife ends the day you kick off. Been that way a long time.

Retired some years ago as a 2nd level manager. With my plan, the answer is no. No benefits (healthcare, concession wireless and internet, etc) pass to the spouse. The only thing spouse gets is life insurance if applicable (and that reduced significantly recently).

Cannot imagine a future retiree would get more now, but ya never know.

Keep trying the benefits hotline, get the answer in writing (i.e., email), and do not count on the accuracy of answers posted to this site. If you do not make progress with the benefits hotline, you should escalate to your local HR representative and/or management chain of command. Contrary to what you read here, the company is not making a list, and you will not end up being targeted.

If she is covered under your plan before you pass, then yes. Understand however, her costs will
substantially increase. Suggest you look for a policy elsewhere or if medicare eligible, go straight to
the BXBS or Humana web site and choose a supplement plan.
