Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

How can Stankey keep his job after this?

No matter how hard he tries to spin this, this is a huge loss for us. We get fired for the smallest infractions, how is he going to survive something as big as this?

Perhaps Stankey will start wearing a toupee to give AT&T a new image. The new motto will be “We got you covered”!!

How can Stankey keep his job after this?
His employment contract.
He made a long term strategic decision with the BOD and CFO buy in, that long term will hopefully improve the companies overall financial stability and power.

Its too little too late. The window of opportunity to build out fiber has closed. Too many players going after the same dollar. TMOB and Verizon are eating T's lunch in the wireless arena. Revenue will continue to plummet. T has the worst reputation when comparing customer service across the board. Everyone thinks T will be successful after shedding DTV and WM, highly doubtfull. It's a travesty what Stephenson, Stankey, and the BOD did to this once great company.

Hey, @ovq+1aYrzQ59, you burped 'but the moves he did since becoming chairman, are positioning this company for future.'. This breathless and enthusiastic defense of Stink would have some merit except for the fact that history shows you are not only completely wrong, but also that Stink is a complete failure.

I'm not speculating about who was the driving force behind DTV and TW acquisitions (though it was Stink), but about actual performance. After the DTV merger Stink was placed in charge. The result? neglect of the core business resulting in losing subs at a rate higher than the pay tv industry as a whole, the loss of a ton of experienced personnel on all levels (from the top on down through rank and file) - both because of layoffs and the fact that people couldn't stand Stink, plummeting morale, the release of the disastrous DTV Now service, and the decline in both customer satisfaction and NPS for DTV services.

Then, after we took over TW they again placed Stink in charge. The exact same thing happened there as happened at DTV: neglect, the loss of successful professionals, plummeting morale, widespread layoffs, and the rushed release of a poorly thought-out HBO Max streaming service.

This isn't speculation, it's fact. So keep on licking Stink's poopchute, but you are totally wrong.

Shareholders would care, but most of us dumped the stock years ago when ee saw the millions of quarterly subscriber losses. The people clinging to dividend are so passively investing that they'll never care.

As long as the current BOD is in place Stankey is secure regardless of performance!! Each Director is getting $300k in gravy money and they are not going to jeopardize that!!!

Question:
How can Stankey keep his job after this?

Answer:
A Board of Directors with no backbone or business acumen in telecom. They are all in the CEO's pocket. The best name to describe this group of jackwagons would be "Board of Doofuses" Let's get that question on the ballot for the next annual meeting along with one demanding their immediate dismissal.

To the commenter saying stank “Got rid of noise and investments that don't have synergies with our networks (DirecTV and Time Warner).”

He was the #2 man at the company attempting to drive those synergies for the past 3-5 years, telling us how great the strategy is, etc.

Your arguments defending him are the complete opposite of what employees have heard this dude say for years. If you want to make the argument that he was just following Randall’s orders, I call absolute bs. These are multimillionaire execs who aren’t afraid to tell their boss no and have an argument.

The people who didn’t buy into this strategy already left and everything that stank did up to this point were bad business decisions to likely position himself as next to be CEO/chairman. Now that he is, someone (or multiple people, or stockholders or maybe his BFF zaslav) finally made him realize that strategy was absolute garbage and now he’s trying to save face.

Don’t throw out that nonsense defending him and putting it all on Randy. It was both of them and every exec who went on a town hall spouting talking points about us being an integrated provider, modern media company, etc. does no one remember what people publicly say and do 3-5 years ago?

Oh that’s right, we don’t. You’re probably the same type of person who argues we can’t survive an increase in tax rate from 21 to 27 percent when it used to be 35%. I wonder who was in charge and what our stock price was then.

Any failures we see going forward should hold Stankey and all leaders responsible. Your defense and deflection is garbage.

Complain all you want about Stankey, but the moves he did since becoming chairman, are positioning this company for future. Steady slow growth based on investments in wireless and fiber. Got rid of noise and investments that don't have synergies with our networks (DirecTV and Time Warner).

Add to that savings from transformational efforts (yes that means even more painful layoffs which hopefully are mostly done with and reduced benefits) and reducing dividends. It means company has a path forward.

We never know how much of the moves done in the past were Stankey and how much they were Randall. Regardless of man, the company is well positioned for future at this point.
