I wouldn't feel so responsible. After you work the list, it'll go to the people above you who will pull their favorites up and their dislikes lower. The whole thing pretends to be about merit, but it's really not. There's no forgiveness in the system. Had a bad year? Or even 3 because you were "going through something?" Tough luck. Have a declared disability? GTFO. Believe me, when they put the paperwork in front of you that says, "we think you are worth nothing. Now you can work for 3 months begging for your job, or we can pay you for the 3 months, and you will have the whole time to look for work," you will think, "I put 50+ hours in every week, actually do my job, and make sure everything is handled. If I come in on my "off days" and take special projects, I will never see my family, and what is the point? You could get a lawyer, and refuse to sign, but they might walk you immediately to the door and fire you for "cause." And when a jury hears it, they won't understand the work environment, know who to believe, and you better believe that the paperwork will be flawless from the company that can't get BOLs right half the time...
I can attest that certain skills still have value, and some firms are good transitions, but you have to catch the opportunities at the right moment.
Good luck. Peace out. Life's too short to be that beaten down by a system.
