Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

ATT has no cards left to play?

Do we lay fiber? No. Run our own RAN? No. Create software? No. Innovate in a Bell Labs-like setting? No.

There is nothing that makes this company special anymore. Someone remarked very well that this company no longer has cards to play and I would really like someone to tell me that this is not true, but unfortunately, I completely agree.

anybody with the least bit of talent isn't insane and stay working in the environment at att. why would anyone want to come into the office and all that gets talked about is who is going to get laid off next.

att is not a way to live life and work.

AT&T is mostly surviving on government contracts. Sadly, we just sold Government Solutions business unit to keep the lights on.

Reminds me of a young teenager who gets their first credit card and ends up maxing it out. Well... now it's time to pay the bank at 29% APR. 1+1 =3

Just remember this ... EVERYTHING that "T" touched went to $#!& ...every single company they have bought ....
They are surviving due to govt. contracts, but it has stopped innovating or inventing long time ago. Right now there are a bunch of crooks and corrupts running this like Enron. After all it is a matter of time. May take a bit longer, but is inevitable.

Digital Life is going to save the business after all. We developed it on our own. We run the network that ties it all together. We own the installers and can use them to get access to sell more mobile phones.

Yeah? Like? Give Examples.
Here's what I remember.

  1. Operator Services used to brag about how much money they made then priced themselves out of business.
  2. Yellow Pages used to brag about all the advertising they sold, then they sold Yellow Pages.
  3. Network Operations used to brag about all of the Land Line phone connections & long distance money they made, when the price went up, the customers dropped land lines. Those switches are heating up buildings with no customers.
  4. Ed Whitacre went on a buying spree and bought the baby bells back paying too much as customers fled the 1E, 1A, 5E, DMS, Ericsson class 5's. Obsolete technology with fleeing customers.
  5. Ed complained that other telcos were using his pipes, (he meant fiber). Evidently he didn't know that we were leasing fiber from Williams Communications to carry our traffic.
  6. Ed bought Sterling Commerce for billions and sold it at a loss.
  7. Ed bought Netzero dialup and it went out of business.
  8. Zane bought a beeper company and it went out of business as customers were converting to cellular service.
  9. Ed spent billions on Project Pronto and ate thru billions for nothing.
  10. Time Warner, DirecTV and a long list of failures.

This company is doomed.
Anyone can buy equipment from a vender, let that company engineer it, install it.
Really all anyone has to do is have a way of marketing it.

Just look at successful companies like Mint Mobile. Ryan Reynolds owns the company buys wholesale access from Tmobile and resells it for a huge profit for a fifth of what AT&T sells
the same cell service for.

Nope. T is doomed and the C-Suite incomps are running this t.urd into the ground.

Obviously you are not being informed of some of the tings that are being done in the company now. There are some departments that are seeing 30% plus profit on their products.
