Others have posted that there will be layoffs in legal - I have not heard this. I think there will be some positions which become “redundant “, but Legal saves the company TONS of money & most legal departments are quite busy - so why would they lay off??

VTO has already gone out w/an accept/reject date of 5/10. This went to Trial Counsel and above (Lead Counsel, Senior Managing Counsel) but not to all. No VTO's (yet) to those in lower bands (Attorneys below Trial Counsel which is Sr. Trial Attorney, Trial Attorney), Paralegals, Admins and Mail Processors. Majority of SCO's are going "virtual" this year and they're looking to centralize mail, so you can expect that alone to have impact on the support staff. Retention is going down as are claims in some markets, so that means less work and less staff needed. Already certain vacant positions in certain SCO's have been transferred to SCO's in growth markets. I'm in Legal Ops and our managers constantly say things like "you'll be so marketable" when talking about projects we're working on and things like that, not necessarily comforting words. Nobody is saying "you'll all be here next year", I'll put it that way. I went through the assessment/TG last year and it sucks. We lost 6 of the 16 person team I was on, but then they gave us all new jobs anyway after they let go people on our team. New job is not really all that great. I'm of course thankful I still have a job, but I don't feel good about how this company has treated me in the last year- it's been eye opening.
Yes, word is that there will be a 25% head count reduction for staff counsel attorneys beginning in August. This will reduce need for admins and paralegals as well.
ok, all the people in India are coming over to go to law school in the states and take and pass the bar exam? Cool story bro.
Attorneys have to work in the state where they try cases. And, I don’t see paralegals in India calling clients in America to discuss discovery responses. Maybe the administrative positions could be in India, but the rest is a stretch in my opinion.
Not crying, just trying to help :)
My range rover lease is just fine. If I get laid off I will have another job with same or higher pay within 2 weeks. Keep crying over there.
Well, we’re hiring 300 auto adjusters, got any body shop experience??? Starting pay 35-40k!!! Surely you can afford your Range Rover lease on that!
I will be lmao when all the higher attorneys get canned. They act like they are so superior. They will be sprucing up their resumes in no time and forced to actually work IF they find a new job.
The only reason I did not take the VTO is because of the 2 year non compete clause. There is no way I could sign that.
All I can say is "I told you so" to those who didn't accept the VTO. Start getting that resume out there...
Sadly, I’m shaking my head. Legal is not immune to transformative growth. You do realize that Allstate employs highly skilled and highly trained legal pros in India right? They will be taking on a lot of your work tasks in the next 2 years By 2025, there will only be a few retained counsel stateside for trials. You will be briefed and coached via zoom by our new legal team from India. So sorry this affected your area. It’s just a better deal for the money. This is another way to transform and grow. ….and “make lots of money” (cue the commercial).
Clearly you were not on the call yesterday, because if you were, you would be well aware of this. He said it straightforward and clear as day that they WILL be doing layoffs in legal which makes complete sense after the VTO expiration for band E and above, but now ALL OF LEGAL is subject to the involuntary layoff. I guess not enough people took the VTO. Yes, legal saves them a lot of money but they will be laying off the higher paid ones and bring in newbies and pay them half the salary. Use your brain.
I totally agree. But you will have to ask TPTB. They confirmed this pretty openly in the 1Q CI call. And convenient that they made this revelation AFTER the 5/10 deadline to accept or reject the enhanced VTO in SCO. It would seem that this just like the 2020 cuts was decided without much if any thought and logic.
