Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Age discrimination in Michigan

It looks like the new regional manager in the South East Michigan region is pushing to move out older workers. There has been a big push in the club to hold them responsible for things they know is hard for them. Even if that worker is an asset in several other areas.

Our new manager is all over it. He is wanting to use us as a stepping stone in his career. Not caring about who he hurts on the way up.
I have never felt like we would be better off with a union until now

In truth, the issue becomes that each of job profiles have been consolidated, former media and clothing associates technically should be as productive as the guy who stocks hardlines because merchandising encompasses so much. So you are forced to find people who can be as amazing as "Susie" the 25 year associate who knows apparel better than any buyer but also stocks like "Hank" who can do 10-15 skids an hour.

As a manager we dreamed of a day where associates would stop saying "well thats not my job" and here we are, staring it in the face. Unable to find a Susie, Hank or combination of the two. My bad guys, its not how we envisioned it.

There is absolutely no doubt that this company engages in age discrimination. I observed what was going down around me and left the company two years ago. I am retiring this summer, but I left this garbage company on my terms rather than theirs. Market managers pr-------e what's left of their moral authority in their quest to climb the ladder. Of course, they will get what is coming to them in the end when Karma kicks in.

Get out. There are plenty of jobs out there. This company has traded its reputation in the name of worship of the dollar.

They constantly treat the older people like dogs. Anything to force them to quit. It isn't unusual for the older ones to be sent out to do carts, while they leave the younger ones working inside. But try proving age discrimination, it's almost impossible unless you have an email or a recording.

I hear the SE Michigan Marketing Manager gives birth to a pack of pups about once a year.

Sam's in Denver metro area doing the same. If you are older, a long time associate or if you don't fit "the narrative". They hand over the reigns to the rude incompetent team leads and boy do those a**es have fun. Their turn is coming! Can't wait! This is the Sams/wallyworld way now!

They have been making these profits off our backs. Old, young, people of all races. Now those of us that helped make this money for them they want to eliminate.

If it helps it isn't just older employees the market manager is after... From what I hear through the grapevine she is cleaning house. Managers are getting fired left and right...

I stand corrected. I apologize for calling the Market Manager a Regional Manager.

I know I may be in the minority but everyone should be held responsible for all the work required by their job... If you can't do the job it's time to find a new one...

That being said SE Michigan doesn't have a new regional manager... Do you mean the market manager, because they just got a new one of those.

Age Discrimination in California also. Older workers try to transfer to other areas, but never even get an interview. So what does our club do? They continue to hire people sight unseen, some do not even get an interview and then just that they start calling in or they just quit. Older people have better work ethics in my opinions, while some younger workers expect things to be handed to them.
