Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Content was the future until this weekend, AT&T Buffoonery Continues

I think "Strategy" and "Well Thought Out" are replaced by "Pi-s it Away" and "Burn It" in the Stankey and Stevenson vocabulary. The spin on this move will be interesting as the egg on Stankey's face just got a dose of diarrhea. I would have to estimate that in the past decade the Stevenson and Stankey tenure have cost shareholders upwards of $200 Billion, countless jobs at AT&T, DTV, and TWX, and their legacies are an absolute disgrace in the business world. Pfefler has to be chuckling a little but consumers will always know that AT&T destroyed HBO.

Time to say good bye to the dream of targeted ads. The brilliant executives thought that "Friends" will generate tons of interest for marketers and viewers. Monica's outfit will be selling to through the roof. Rachel hair color will be the latest craze. Too bad, it didn't happen.

People are still buying cell and fiber service, who knew? (SMH)

Does this mean Stank can’t hit the red carpet with his hip shades on anymore? He still knows more about TV than anyone, right?

Trump and DOJ was right to oppose the TW purchase by AT&T back in 2016/2017. But Ratty and Stinky could not help themselves from destroying T...

Remember, AT&T practices data-driven decision making. The data made them do it, you see. It's no one's fault. It's that dang data!

"Buy for $80B, value at $50B in the selloff. Sounds like another $30B lost in what, 3 years?"

No. We're selling it for $43bil but retaining 70% of a $100bil company.

This isn't a "bad" deal, it's just an admission of failure by everyone at the top. Despite knowing more about the media business than anyone else in recorded history, Stank has to hand over the reigns to someone who actually knows something about the media business.

"Seems like a good move, the company will never do anything right in the eyes of some of you. They are actually trying to fix some of the recent issues with the TW buy that you all bring up all the time and now that is not good enough for you. Grow up you bitter old complainers."

There's no way to put a good spin on this. Buy for $80B, value at $50B in the selloff. Sounds like another $30B lost in what, 3 years? And that's a superficial view, I'm sure it's much much worse than that.

And as a another thread here has raised, they just put the pension plans together. You think maybe someone could have said "hey hold off on that for a few months"?

If this is Stank undoing Randall's mistakes, why is he paying Randall serious money to consult? Consult on what? If your sole priority is undoing the man's sad legacy, you don't need him around to tell you how.

If it looks like an id--t, swims like an id--t and quacks like an id--t, it's an id--t.

""ATT needs to get rid of TW it is stupid...Getting rid of TW is stupid""

Buying TW was stupid and having to spin it off proves that, so yeah it's stupid I guess?

People have watched thousands of their coworkers get their lives turned upside down because the company thought burning money was the best way to keep the T-train moving. Lots of people at the top will walk away from this with tens of millions of dollars in parting gifts. The rest of us, not so much.

This probably is the nail in HBO's coffin. They've treated the talent side like trash from the start and now they're throwing them in with a reality TV platform. Who in hollywood wants to put up with this kind of headache when there are so many more options for content now?

Lucky for them, there's a ton of c-list content available & Americans really love to watch trash TV.

We lost so many good telecom workers to feed egos of our executives and make investment banking companies richer. We lost so much money in both DirecTV and Time Warner purchases. Goldman Sachs and other investment companies are laughing all the way to bank. Meanwhile, so many of us have lost jobs, will lose benefits, and are left to fix what needed no fixing. The government should look into the AT&T executives who continued to make themselves richer (Randall and Stankey) by giving themselves bonuses for these acquisitions, then turn around and sell immediately there after. How much are we going to give Jason Kilar for the great job he did (yeah right) to leave. These two should be in jail, no different than Bernie Madoff.

I ask myself often, how do you get to those levels? Is it because you’re the smartest person in the room? No, that’s not it. Is it because you have awesome performance? Nope, not it either. The only thing I can think of is, you just have to know the right people. Imagine going to work, doing this kind of a job at our levels? You would be walked out the door very quickly.

Roll the clock back. AT&T is done a CTRL ALT DELETE, reset the business to what it looked like in 2015. Should be easy to meet objectives, Wireless & Fiber.

If you put Stankey, Stevenson, and The Board in a Business Case Study you would have 19 year old Freshman at the Community College asking if all this really happened. Seriously these guys aren't too far off from Enron type stuff. Just psychopathic id--ts playing with other people's money and lives and doing a really $hitty job of it.
