Any bets on how long Stankey stays? A few weeks ago Warner was the future of the company. A quick turn like this makes one wonder.
Variety seems to think that Stankey is unloading Warner before the rot reaches the DTV stage: "There was also shock expressed that AT&T would look for an exit strategy so soon after acquiring some of Hollywood’s crown jewels. Stankey is an expert for tv content, loading up on reality shows when most viewers already thought of them as passé. Another Johnny come lately attempt for the popularity contest, not betting on this one.

The T way: Never admit an error. Instead, just take the massive loss and then start the layoff/benefit reduction phase again.

I do feel sorry for the next batch at T to get let go. But as someone who is no longer there I can honestly tell you that your next job - whatever it is - will be better.

They'll have to get approval, which they probably will - although I'd like to think all the lies they told (more jobs/lower prices) to get the WB merger approved will come back to haunt them.
What's funny about this to me is this will solidify the dilution of HBO's reputation. HBO's been considered the "premiere" service for decades & now episodes of The Wire will be right along side Na--d and Afraid on the turnstile.

Stinky is no doubt about to buy high and sell off low yet again. And the m0r0n will be talked into keeping the debt on T's books. Selling low is the T way!
No doubt this will trigger Stinky to reduce moe retiree benifits and wack more employees and the BoD will give Stinky a huge bonus for his gross mismanagement.
No eorries on the dividend though, T will just borrow more to pay it out. Afterall, we don't want T largest shareholder, Ratty, to be impoverished and his wife, Whitacre's duaghter, to have to move out of any of their mansions!

Well lets see. Discovery is owned by John Malone, a long time AT&T partner. He's been in the company's pocket long time. This obviously will be good for the company. Get's Warner off the books, but it will remain an affiliate company. Must be the work of that contractor, John hired in january.
Taking on still more debt that the telco-side cash cow will be bled for.
At a time when debt is about to become more expensive.
If at first you don't succeed, double down on your mistake and call it a victory.
