Before I joined AT&T three years ago I asked a couple of people I knew who worked here if it was a good place to work. All of them had only words of praise for the place so I had no reason not to accept the offer. Fast forward to today and I can't understand how anybody could consider this a good place to work and recommend it to anybody. If you discount the layoffs which happen everywhere this is still the worst work environment I've ever seen (and felt.) If the pay and benefits were good enough I could understand people choosing to ignore the toxicity and lack of upward movement but they're not. I talked to the same people since then and they still think I'm exaggerating, one of them even got offended by my comments. I don't get it, but it cost me a much better job I left thinking I was switching to a better career option. I don't know if I should laugh or cry.

Go back to 2008 when everyone was laid off after the housing crises. First time lawyers with 10 years of experience in major law firms were walked out and couldn't find work. Homes were abandoned everywhere. People squatted in the vacant ones and banks wouldn't kick them out because they cut the grass and kept the property up. Look at the Keystone Pipeline; many highly paid engineers terminated. Check the automotive industry over the next 15 years when EVs replace (if ever) ICE engines, the entire industry will be changed. Auto parts stores will be way different. Suppliers will no longer make the ICE parts and fluids. Hundreds of thousands of auto repair businesses will no longer need ICE technicians; out the door they go. Be happy with what you have.

Depends on the org, team and your managers as there are huge differences. I'm with T for 9 years (same team since beginning), yet there are other teams on the same floor from which I would have quit within probation period.

Its been the same here for about 20 years. Your friends may be some of the very few who drink the kool-aid and buy into all the rah-rah espoused by the Anne Chows and McElfreshs in the company. This site has been around longer than three years. Unfortunately you didn't fully do your due diligence. There is nothing to be excited about here. Do your job until they surplus you and keep your resume up to date. That's about all you can do if you decide to stay.
Friends don't let friends work for T. Please re-evaluate your interpersonal relationships immediately. Bennies for new hires are the best they have ever been. Feel free to leave T at any time, at will employment prevails.

Find a mentor.
None of it will matter. You are the buzzing of flies to them.

I’m sorry your friends lied to you. It was awful 3 years ago and has only gotten worse.
Waste of digital ink. Are you looking for help? Backing up? What? The last 5 years or so have actually been good to join the company, increased benefits, time off, and bonuses.
You are whining about choices you made and are solely responsible for. Stop it and fix yourself and your situation if necessary.
You’re complaining about benefits and pay with only three yrs svc when newer hires were gifted with more bennies, vacay, and a bump up of minimum pay? I suggest you call your buddies at your last gig and try to get back in. Us with with 20+ yrs hv bigger issues.
