Any advice from people who already left AT&T? The decision to leave AT&T has been made and my mind is made up. Now I’m just looking for the best way to exit. With the way things are panning out, I figure that I am also close to getting cut. I’m wondering is the best way to wait it out and get severance or to try and find a new job while still employed and leave on my own terms?

Well, then perhaps head count reductions will happen in the west because techs are doing only one order per day and sitting idle the rest if the day with approx. 50% productivity per week yet, they keep hiring more techs...go figure!!!
Dust off and prettify your resume right now. Start a search for companies/positions you would like, and send out your applications.
Why on earth would you wait?
"Bargained for personnel aren’t going to get laid off,.."
Mobility bargained for MTSO techs (NEO, ACE) just got whacked in the Northeast. Long overdue, really, as headcount was way too high.
Since your mind is made up, go ahead and start looking for another job now, and then leave when YOU are ready, not when they are ready to get rid of you. As others have said, it is easier to find a job when you already have one; also, you do not know how long it will take to find one.
If you were planning to retire instead of look for another job, my advice would be the same: Just GO! In the long run, the 6 months (or less) of severance pay will not matter. (If it does, then you are not financially ready to retire.)
Keep in mind that you may not ever get surplused. Luck is a big factor. For years, I have been expecting to get surplused, but it has not happened to me yet, even as I watched others around me get hit in large numbers.
I recently made the decision to retire. Although I would have liked to receive the severance pay, it felt so good to take to take control of my own life instead of waiting around to have it done to me.
Bargained, wait, unless it is affecting your mental health/
All employee's should have an exit strategy. Plan now. Don't wait. get the resume cleaned up, be on the look. If something comes up that works out, take it on your own terms.
Depends on how much time you have at T. For me I am waiting until they kick me out and taking my severance. I have been here long enough that starting somewhere else would be for less money with fewer PTO days and more than likely I would have to go to an office.
As someone who was let go, I suggest you do it on your own terms. I was cut a few months before the pandemic hit and struggled for almost a year before I found a new role. You never know what's going to happen in this crazy world, so best to maintain as much control over your fate as possible. You don't want to be laid off and then find yourself struggling to find another job in the middle of a new pandemic or another recession.
Just like what was said below, best time to look for a job is when you currently have one. I left AT&T a month ago and couldn't be happier. I tried waiting it out for an MVO, but it's just not worth it.
Bargained for personnel aren’t going to get laid off, thus, no severance package, nothing to wait out!
Even if business doesn’t pick up and it’s slower than ever, no layoffs, at least not until next year!
This just sounds like an ill informed humble brag.
If you’re bargained for , wait it out.
just leave on your own you will not regret it.
“Severance is higher when surplussed...than if I resign”
I’m assuming you’re bargained for. Wasn’t aware you received anything by resigning except maybe a retirement gift and or dinner if applicable
I got a new employer, then left. Sure, it would be nice to have a surplus package and a new job concurrently, but thats not a realistic approach.
Everyone's situation is different. If you have skills that are high in demand, you can wait and leave with a severance. If it's not for sure if you could find a new job on a short notice, accept a decent job offer if you get one.
Depends, me as non-management, they are going to pay me to get rid of me!
Severance is higher when surplussed...than if I resign
You are more marketable now while still being employed.
It's always easier to find a job when you HAVE a job. I would not wait until I got laid off.
