Thread regarding Hitachi Vantara layoffs

How much higher pay did you get outside of HV?

I always knew I was underpaid at HV. When I became aware that I would never get a raise, I decided to get out of here and guess what.... for much less work I was paid much, much more.
I was surprised when I was offered that amount and only then did I become aware of how much my hard work was undervalued in this company. Don’t underestimate yourself and get out of here as soon as possible.

TC went from around 135K to around 250K.

My recommendation is to take interview elsewhere before they eventually move things out of SCHQ.

Joined a successful company that's paying 2.5x what I was paid at Hitachi.

They USED to pay you NOT to leave which was higher than the rest of the industry. That changed when they rebranded in a desperate attempt to revitalize the cr-p show they re-invented.

Just get out at any salary you can survive on. And you are correct, the hi-tech field is not what it used to be. It's only going to get worse. Outsourcing, offshore cheap cheap cheap ridiculous support, id--t talking heads in management positions, nepotism and no one gives a flying rats bu-t about it. And everyone wonders why everything breaks, gets hacked and shuts down.....it's always someone else's fault, right. You can't fix incompetence.

HV will not pay you what you are worth. I left and got 20% bump, a chill culture and solid benefits. There was zero incentive to stay. None whatsoever.

I left, got paid MUCH more at a company that delivers A-Z, but somehow the culture is worse :( Be glad-very glad HV doesn't practice PiP. I want to leave my new job and i think Im done with tech.

When I left HV, I got a raise of over 60%. The new company found me, I didn't have to grind or prep. They have much better benefits, too.

Yeah, I may have missed out on severance, but for me it was worth it to stop feeling like I was working for the Dread Pirate Roberts: "Good work. Sleep well. I'll most likely [lay you off] in the morning."

You should be happy with what we give you.

Mine is close to 35% as well, a little low on base and a little higher on bonus. Nets to around 35% across both.

The one thing I will recommend to people in the states is that you should ask for a range you want to jump at in your target company. dont fall into the trap of them asking what is your current salary and you answering as such. BTW, its now illegal to ask about current salary though recruiters do ask. I would recommend you answer with "I will be willing to move for a salary in the range of XX to YY". And you should assume that they will come in at the very low end of that range, so XX needs to be enough for you to make the change.

I got a 35% increase in base. Same bonus as in HV though could have probably asked for a higher bonus. Not complaining though. I was ecstatic with the hike - the new base itself covers what I should have been getting paid at HV in bonus and so I lost interest in fighting for a bonus hike as well.

Make the jump folks, market is hot.

HR gets compensation comparisons from some market consultants. The compensations are aligned with the industry or competitors. Managers get more bonus if they can keep employee compensation to the lowest. This is how Frud up these management operates.

I don't doubt people earn more outside of HV - our compensation sucks compared to some of the competition - but what's with the frequent "you should leave" posts? It's almost as if some people are posting to encourage people to leave, so that HV don't have to pay any severance. What could possibly be the reasoning behind that?

same situation here… tons of work, underpaid, no raise, no promotion. Others on the team recieved higher pay, higher rank (directors or senior directors), do less work, less responsibilities, all the BS talk, and managers give out all the rewards and recognition!!

So I quit, found another job, less pay but I am happy!!!
