Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Laid off and offered my job back

Laid off and offered my job back, for less pay. Has anyone been in the same boat and taken it? I’m worried it’s just a temporary move to get them back afloat and I’ll be axed again. My trust in Allstate is broken. Weighing pros and cons of coming back. Right now I’m just being a stay at home parent until I decide what I want to do…

Seems unfair to ask to come back for less money but do the same job.

I know someone went back, but I cannot say for sure if they were called back or applied for a new job. And severance had to be paid back.

I have mixed sentiments on being called back. But I haven't received a call back yet, so I guess I was considered to not be a superstar employee in their eyes. Kinda sucks, I always did my best and put in the attention to detail and quality when I worked there. Or at least I thought I did. Oh well.

I'm pretty sure op is telling a real tale. Allstate has been bringing folks back at same post, same seniority. Even they aren't sadistic enough to pull something like this.

Several of us were offered our old jobs back but they gave us our old pay back since returning within a year. Kept our tenure and PTO too. Our Job isn't that bad and not the nightmare some areas in the company are. Job market is still terrible here and none of us have gotten bites for decent professionals jobs. Plus most companies around here are back to the office full time or hybrid. At least we are coming back to Allstate permanent work from home. Most of us took up Allstate's offer. Worst case we are around 6-12 months before they cut us again with possibly another severance and reset unemployment and maybe our local job market will be a lit better by then as well.

Only if they offered you back the same pay and no loss in seniority. Allstate is in need of people after terminating too many people.

If you are in California consult a labor attorney. You have a potential wrongful termination claim. Same type of thing happened to a friend of mine and he was successful in his claim.

Unless you absolutely need the job, I'd tell them to go fu-k themselves. Even still, I'd still exhaust any other options out there before going back to a job that I was laid off from, for a pay cut, and with the possibility of having to return severance I received

In addition to the lower pay, aren’t you required to return some of the severance? You have to think about that as well.

If there’s a dire financial need then take it temporarily. Make looking for something else a priority. Long term I wouldn’t trust them, plus the offer of less pay is an insult.

I would tell them you refuse unless they offer you same pay. Avoid it altogether if you can, of course, but if you really need a job then they should pay you what they paid you before. The job is also going to be harder than before because they are now so short staffed.

It’s an insulting offer, and if you accept then you are telling them that they were right to devalue you as a worker, and they will just keep doing this to you and everyone else because they can.

If you can tell them to p—s off...
They are struggling for workers right now to cover positions....because of their own mismanagement and decisions...
Don’t help them..particularly for less
Money....

I have never heard of such a thing. I would say that unless you were desperate, say no, and if you do come back use the time to look for another job. They put you on their layoff list for a reason, right or wrong, and you will be back on it the next time.

I know for sure that if it were me, who was forced into that position that I would do as little work as possible as I spent the majority of my time searching for the next job.
