Yeah and I think everyone saw it coming my friend. DEG is just a shell of what it used to be. That being said, when they were part of C&E, the way around dwindling work loads was to simply just go take work away from other organizations to try and close the gap. Interestingly enough, Back in the 2000’s, they gave up all DS3 and above and Ethernet circuit work to Specials because they wanted a clear line drawn between system vs circuit work and they got it. Then, just a couple 2-3 years ago, they moved all low-speed circuit pack work to Specials in all regions as well. And get this, they just stopped working on MLT back around 2017/2018. Can u believe that? C&E leadership at the time made the decision to just arbitrarily stop performing MLT system maintenance because it continued to steal away from capital spending. TFS subsequently decided to pick all that work up (and Business Services got stuck with it. Remind me again what MLT has to do with Business??) and it is currently all being worked by Specials techs in Business Field Services today. With T pushing so hard to go passive in the last mile, it’s not difficult to understand why the work isn’t there for DEG techs.

Full speed ahead on DEG. They’re turning down the systems but going to keep on doing the door alarms, battery grease, and sticker work in them.
Even BFS is slow...seems to be slow all over...time to reduce head count!
I am in the CO. We are pretty slow. I cover three offices and quite a few more if someone on vacation. But yes. It is slow. Mostly decommissioning pair gain systems and migrations from really really old fiber transport equipment to just old transport equip. And we don’t get alarm tickets like we used to they just filter them and don’t address them. But we have at least one or two techs retire each year and with summer vacations coming up it does get busy trying to cover for those on vacation.
