Heads up Alex,
You are failing at integration. Plain simple clear no BS you are failing. Husky has taken over CVE teams and anything branded or done in a Cenovus way is working or bad. Your staff are angry and have no one to talk to as we are run by Husky. I and many others would leave if we could.

So the one post below is basically saying anyone left over in Husky is an a$$h0le? Great. This should be fun but not sure I believe that.
Remember anyone on either side that got to the position of VP or higher is a potential psychotic. They didn’t get there because they are nice people that’s for sure.
Remember when back in the days other oil and gas companies were saying “we pay well but you know it’s not not encana here«
Well that arrogance in the DNA of what became Cenovus is still around
Think the last post is sucking air out the wrong end , doesn't matter what company they use to work for every manager was stepping on anyone that was a threat to their position , and after countless layoffs at either place that's all that's left a bunch of backstabbers good luck to everone lleftmost really matter who's running the place it's gone to sh-t either way
What we're seeing is the strength of character differences between the two companies; people who survived at Husky through this downturn are ruthless, delivery focused individuals because this is the expectations Hong Kong set for us. Most if not all of our incompetence in legacy Husky was CEO down to VP - it seems to be the opposite in legacy CVE.
Cenovus and this integration are an embarrassment to the oil and gas industry. Shows how incompetent they really are. The Conoco merger was two years of pain and this one looks to be even worse.
I suppose we should be ready for more “random last minute retirement “ decisions. Wonder what that guys payout was?
Honest question,
Would any of you feel comfortable calling the integrity line and reporting an issue? I can’t say that I would as I do not have faith the managers and VPs would not do all they could to find out who filled the report and take me out.
The CLT is not exactly inspiring when it comes to looking after an employee vs their hand picked management.
True. This is now a Husky middle management run company. Seems like a risky move, given the past track record at HSE, but Alex and Jon don’t think employee judgment and leadership matters. They think assets and functions run themselves.
They are amateur executives and it shows
Not true Land’s new manager is Husky. They demoted the Cenovus manager and a few group leads to make room for the ones from Husky. It saying that is good or bad just a fact. The VP is Cenovus, but like all our VPs he is MIA and knows nothing about Surface Land so it is effectively run by the Husky mgrs. Most Cenovus VPs that report to Andrew are looking after themselves and trying to keep their jobs so not to worried about running their teams. Sad truth we have not seen our VP at all.
Some groups are run by CVE, land, stakeholder indigenous relations. Mostly Husky people let go in those groups. For now. Another layoff round in June I've heard.
That's what happens when you have a bunch of arrogant mo--ns running the show.
They failed because Cenovus mgmt failed to treat it like it is. If CVE bought and took over Husky then they should have acted like it like CNRL would have. Take the required staff, turf the mgmt, and absorb the people like the borg. No one ever got bought by CNRL and then turned around and tried to change the way they do things or the culture. You either suck it up and become CNRL or leave. But at CVE it’s the exact opposite, take over a company and apologize for doing so, then take all their mgmt and people and let them dictate the new culture. To the point where everyone is calling it a merger which it was not. I think it was a reverse takeover.
I would call the integrity line like Alex suggested it I worry it’s a set up. Once you make a complaint I’m sure they would figure out who it is by process of elimination. Ha that might be a pun because guess how it would end for me.
Maybe these two companies just were not meant to be together. If no one is happy and it seems two very different cultures that don’t jive and zero direction from the CLT it could just be a flop.
That could be the simple answer. If the staff are not happy and not motivated to make it a success it won’t be regardless of upper managements wishes and dreams.
If it fails the company will slowly fall apart and be sold off piece by piece until there is nothing left. I fear that is our future because I don’t know anyone who is happy. If you work for a Cenovus manager/VP/ director and you’re from husky you’re not happy and if you work for a husky director/VP/manager you are really not happy.
Our VP has had a townhall and then nothing, not a word, not a visit to a meeting, nada. We would not even know the individual exists if the name wasn’t on the org chart.
Anyhow that my two bits. Now you can start the stop whining you should be lucky to have a job, there are thousands who would take your spot, blah blah blah.
Word of advice to Alex: your integration team should be visiting meetings at low levels, team meetings at the group lead level, call up random employees for check in’s again at the low level. Stop asking your management how it’s going they either don’t know or are lying to you.
The legacy cenovus team is leading and also in charge of integration, that was the setup from the get-go under J.B’s & I.E’s leadership. CVE bias was #1 factor in decision making versus ‘doing the right thing’ for Cenovus. Husky had no say, we are where we are because of that ladies and gents. Husky can’t make integration any worse than it already is as the budgets have been already blown and no outcomes delivered.
Sadly I expected this would happen. Husky is a bigger company with many more people, locations, and businesses than Cenovus. We had a very simple and good business, and face it, our safety, management, HR, and IT systems were build for what we had, not for what it is now.
Hopefully the often nasty and arrogant culture at Cenovus changes as a result of this. But this site makes me think it’s only getting worse.
Good luck everyone.
