Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

My Nightmare

I just woke up from a bad nightmare.

I worked for an Oil and Gas company, in a really small cubicle, that poorly decided to layoff 25% of its workforce during a jobless pandemic, after 7 prior layoff rounds.
Then they removed the 20/20 incentive which further angered staff and even planned to reduce compensation levels by mid year.

Then the Executive Team started to panic at how angry the staff had become and they agreed they pushed the pendulum too far. To help moral, they decided to give everyone a logo coffee cup or key chain.. and then sweetened the deal with a free magic show.

After that, they started layoffs again in the fall.

Then one day, a core asset had a major incident and people got hurt (like Superior) as the remaining staff were overworked, distracted, not adequately trained, and the controls and procedures deteriorated due to high turnover rates.

Then, just when you thought that things couldn’t get worst for this company, the SEC started an investigation into irregular reporting allegations. Meanwhile the company opened a lawsuit with one of it Peers due to alleged patent infringement as the peer figured out from ‘new employees’ how to to improve a critical OS technology process and improved its margin by over 10%, thereby stealing a core competency, as a result of losing critical talent.

Meanwhile the CEO was no where to be found. HR Exec kept telling him not to worry about it, but he knew better deep down..but choose to dismiss it as just a small handful off “assh0les” in staff, and the “majority of staff must be happy and ‘ok’”

While ignoring a critically high risk in his business with a mass exodus brewing, staff then heard he was busy for weeks talking about tax credits for carbon capture dreams with Trudeau.

In my dream, the CEO and HR lead was subsequently fired by the Board, as the shareholders started to pressure the Board for action. The Board fired the CEO in September 2022 in my dream, but was quickly replaced by the CFO (almost as if the CFO planned it).

Just a dream, don’t freak out HR/ CLT

I got let go in March so am not around to witness the great unravelling.

Is this for real? A magic show and a key chain?

How does the CLT make these decisions? How does that discussion play out without them understanding the disrespect and satire? Do they mean it that way? Or are they just really bad at this?
