Some of you are enjoying the back and forth, I will indulge you one more time. I will try to tone down the rhetoric. Like many IC’s, I do my part and must be accountable to achieve goals layout by my org. I don’t claim to be better than Chow or anyone else.
I don’t know Chow’s background and not in her org, only commenting on what is in plain sight. I plead ignorance to what I don’t know and certainly with open mind on changing my views. If we were to stick to facts and look at Chow’s revenue goals and actual results, most people would agree on that measurement for success. This is the information isn’t widely shared. Those who are in her org, please comment.
I do respect Chow’s personal achievements and her journey to get to where she at. I don’t have any grudges against her gender, race, or success. I hope we can be successful as a company, which relies on successful leaders. Peace out.

when you reach that level, the vast majority of your workday is spent promoting yourself to anybody around you, and to the world at large. very little time is spent by such folks actually strategizing about how to grow the company in any concise or thoughtful way. if this were not so, do you think T would have incurred T Mobile penalty fee, bought Direct TV, or tried to swallow the biggest elephant in media when T knows next to nothing about that entire segment? no. so don't blame chow- she is no better and no worse than most flying at that level of T. i give her credit for reaching the rung of the ladder she's now on. if she goes any higher, it won't bother me any. she isn't any worse than what we now have and just had at the very top.

@wje, Business Services doesn’t do layoffs. They just keep playing the shell game and have plenty of people on hand to hold the chairs down in the office so they don’t roll away.

It’s not specific to Chow. Most T people in senior management role has same mediocrity symptoms.
(1) they look at the rear view mirror and decide where to go (they don’t navigate or scan the forward)
(2) in all town halls, they cherry pick the suitable data to show the success story (e.g, if total revenue growth is not good, they pick up a particular sub-domain and show how fabulous the growth in that sub-domain is. I call it intellectual dishonesty.
(3) when Chow took helm of managed services business, she talked big about making it profitable. But in the end, customer just got frustrated of not getting the services with quality, backed off from giving T more businesses, and profit and total revenues both didn’t improve. Why? Because, the people in such position do not have the knowledge on chalking out a strategy. They simply think that “goal” or “priorities” themselves are the strategy. Once you set goal or priorities, things will automatically happen. This is why I call the people in such positions as mediocre. Chow is no exception. Jeff Mcelfresh is no exception either.
(4) when NPS goes up, Chow mentions it. But Chow can't clarify actually what factors contributed to the increased NPS. So, they are devoid of analytical skills. Let alone the synthetic ones.
(4) the most awkward thing to notice is that throughout the past decades, these people in the senior management trumpeted the success of T, achieved their promotion and recognition, but then why was there layoffs? If success is what defined their contribution to T, then why the level 1 and level 2 employees have to lose jobs? In fact, isn’t it should be opposite? Okay, if their defence is that “business circumstances “ has changed, then the question is why couldn’t they realise this before and act to turn those circumstances into T’s favour. After all, isn’t that what they are paid for?
Point is simple, T is a coterie of mediocrity where each one scratches back of each other (in front of each other), get promotion thereby and they keep continuing driving the car by looking at the rear view mirror. Chow is one example, but not the only one.

Anyone hear of layoffs anywhere down where the techs work? I know there are a lot of supervisors and technicians with little or no work day after day!
