I signed up for only 3 mbps a few years ago because l’m cheap. The FTTN that I have works great. With the new Dell XPS desktop containing an i7 Intel Core processor and 16 gb ram that I just bought, my internet is plenty fast enough. You don’t need a lot of bandwidth for home use, a good pc with a fast processor, sufficient memory, and a decent graphics card are good enough.

10MBS doesn't even meet FCC guidelines for broadband. They say 25 minimum.

That just means if taxpayers are paying, one way to limit costs is to keep requirements to what is necessary for schools/work, not more expensive than necessary. Makes a heck of a lot of sense.

What does this even mean? "Government forced plans" ?

Maybe it's a reference to CAF

Meanwhile, they want you to contribute money to the company PAC to make sure government policy benefits the company.

Good enough for what?
Doing videoconference is fine with 10 Mbps. Upstream. Heck, you found do multiple in parallel. Plus your video doorbells.

What is the consumer use case where you need more than 10 meg up? Honestly curious– I'm not aware of one.

If you want to host a server or something, yeah a faster upstream is needed. But that's more of a business use case.

It’s good enough for all the people on the government forced plans. More than enough... if you want 1gb uploads then pay like the rest of us.
