Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

How happy are you here?

Perhaps this question is a bit naive, but I have a feeling that no one is happy here. The work here is a means to an end and there is no fulfillment of any kind.

It makes me depressed that when I look back, I realize that somewhere else I could have progressed much more than here. My career stagnated because I didn’t leave on time.

US Bank is the only company I worked at where I saw people leave only to come back or begging to come back because they discovered how bad every other company is. Do you want to see unhappy? Go work at Wells, IBM, Citi, Mellon - you will be crawling back on your knees to work at US Bank.

To the person having trouble finding other work: there are brokerage companies, credit unions, insurance, grocery and healthcare companies that can use your skills. Focus on the process improvement and business solutions language, and on how you treat people. Never be afraid of dumping a sshhiitthole like US Bank. You will be merrier, make more money and will notice much less stress.

I like the comment about USB technology from the 2000s. That's being generous about their non-integrated mess from even earlier. Fortunately, the management is also stuck in the late 90s and simply don't have the skills to bring USB into more modern times.

I’ve been in this industry for 35 years and at USB for 22+. Why? Because I like what I do. Is every day perfect? Nope. But I do not dread going to work, whether it’s commuting to my office in downtown or the office in my house. Find what you like to do, and then do it well. Accolades come without demands, and you get noticed without drawing attention to yourself. At the end of the day the numbers speak for themselves, whether at this bank or another one.

Never a single moment in my 730 day tenure at US bank I ever felt happy, appreciated, valued, empowered or considered part of the team. US Bank is a poisoned well and you have play a unique politics game. Too many weasels in there who like feeling powerful and who will never care for solutions built for the customer's success. Just leave. You will feel much better. Guaranteed

You have placed your happiness outside of your own self - that's your problem, not anyone else. I do community service with my colleagues, I attend insider teaching sessions receiving the information I cannot get outside or in a textbook, I take online courses and I network with others around the company.

This has nothing to do with the company making me happy, this is me finding my space no matter where I work at. You need to look in the mirror if you want to complain about being happy at your job.

Nope. Incompetent managers. Technology stuck in the early 2000s. I work in tech and having trouble finding other work because banks are seen as dinosaurs....
