Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What's the point?

What's with hiring people with plenty of experience but none for the roles they're brought in to do? I know there are plenty of people within the company who are much better suited for certain jobs and yet people are brought in from the outside with no background in that field to fill a position. What's the point of that?

As it’s been said for decades and more, “it’s not what you know, but who you know!” This has been a constant in both the private as well as the public sectors and will never change, period, end of story!

Theres no one answer why this is. More often than not internal folks simply aren't in the running for those positions, or outside folks are actively looking for work and are seeking out opportunities, and get hired. In some cases it's a friend of s manager or a recommendation of a friend, just network hiring 101.
