The culture needs to change. I believe there are a lot of good people working there who want to do the right thing. It is easy to align with noble values and create a purpose that goes beyond a paycheck. It gives meaning to the work and before you know it, you are swimming up stream. It can start with overlooking small things like conflicting priorities, and then the oversights become bigger and impacts your values. Most people enjoy their work, give their best effort, learn, grow, overcome obstacles and make things work. That does not happen by chance.
Before one realizes they are caught up in the culture and all the smoke and mirrors. Leaders lose their voice and may go along with the program for fear of losing their job. Self interest, career, politics, need, family, and yes.... money all play a part in it. Failure to speak up when something does not sit well, inability to see and point out behavior that does not align, and thinking that it can’t happen to them until it does. There is a lot of theatrics, buzz words, and concepts to promote the need for change that loose their chandelier. True change starts from the top. That would require an awareness for a need to change - that is not going to happen. Behavior speaks louder than words, and people who have been around enough to see it can push through it to get things done while staying true to their values. It’s all about $$$$
Great post from thread +1a0rTm49. Unfortunately, I think those at the top are unaware of the need for change.
