I wish I knew about this site eight months ago, I wouldn't have made one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I quit a decent job to switch to Allstate because the pay was better and it seemed like a fun and engaging job. It actually was, I enjoyed all six months of it before I was unceremoniously cut. I have to ask, why? Why hire somebody implying that it's a long term thing just to cut them a few months later? Who does sh– like that?

The culture needs to change. I believe there are a lot of good people working there who want to do the right thing. It is easy to align with noble values and create a purpose that goes beyond a paycheck. It gives meaning to the work and before you know it, you are swimming up stream. It can start with overlooking small things like conflicting priorities, and then the oversights become bigger and impacts your values. Most people enjoy their work, give their best effort, learn, grow, overcome obstacles and make things work. That does not happen by chance.
Before one realizes they are caught up in the culture and all the smoke and mirrors. Leaders lose their voice and may go along with the program for fear of losing their job. Self interest, career, politics, need, family, and yes.....money all play a part in it. Failure to speak up when something does not sit well, inability to see and point out behavior that does not align, and thinking that it can’t happen to them until it does. There is a lot of theatrics, buzz words, and concepts to promote the need for change that loose their luster. True change starts from the top. That would require an awareness for a need to change - that is not going to happen. Behavior speaks louder than words, and people who have been around enough to see it can push through it to get things done while staying true to their values. It’s all about $$$$
Sorry this happened to you and everyone else but just remember there is never a promise or even implied long term employment. It really was a waste to hire new ppl if they planned on cutting them but Allstate got their use out of you I suppose. Just know that they did you a favor and I wish you luck and everyone else who was not cut or who will be facing cuts including me.
What a mo–n.
They hire new so they can get rid of old. Lay off 1 new young person and then 1 old tenured person. Makes it look fair and even across the board. Their goal is to keep lawsuits from happening when they get rid of the older more expensive employees. So they hire young new employees to lay off at the same time. And they hire a few older new people too, just to keep the mix fresh.
Here’s what happened to you...unfortunately. You got caught up in the corporate politics of the “hiring ruse”. Allstate hires simultaneously while laying off people. It’s a ruse. They make it seem like there is opportunity and growth. Like a thriving growing company. The only thriving job growth is in India. The hubs will be around for a few years, but will slowly shrink .....but they will hire a person here and there to give people the illusion that they are growing and stabilizing in the states. This is a Chicago based company filled with corruption, manipulative tactics and unethical behavior. You’re fortunate not be involved with these clowns anymore.
Sorry to hear that. The people that run allstate, Tom wilson, glenn shapiro, and Dan trudan are all ruthless and only care about themselves
