Displaced Redmond folks.. stay or go?

How many folks are taking the relocation to AZ now that you have had a week to think about it?

Majority wont move. If you do, unlikely to get much raise as Rmd pay is higher

Be prepared to do the work of 2 or people as the brain drain will leave not holes but craters of domain knowledge

Death spiral. Very sad

@2mtf: I would add that along with your post that special feeling you get when you do that walk in summer when it's 118º outside. Then you arrive at you car and it's about 160º inside of it.

Those considering a move also need to take into account the office environment, once we are all forced back in. Most likely will be placed in Deer Valley North Court bldg. Cubes are about 2/3 size of those in Rdm. Plus very few windows. DVNC is also a "sick" bldg, you will be subject to not so good smelling air, since in summer you cannot open ANY windows or doors. You're stuck inside breathing smelly recycled air. Also have a parking problem, the east lot fills up where you may end up walking 1/4 mile to bldg. In AZ summer, not so fun. Worse is if you have to park in South lot, and walk to NC. It's a hike. Just pray your cube is not near a microwave station, then you get to enjoy the smell of everyone's lunch being cooked. It's WAY different from Rdm

I retired from WoneyHell years ago. It still brings me joy whenever I hear someone is leaving or planning to leave. All of you deserve better than this company, which is run by sociopaths.

Your salary should be adjusted from redmond to PHX. And engineers are all replaceable, no union in AZ.

That's a big nope on relocation for me. We have extended family on both my wife's and my families in the Seattle metro area. We also have two kids in high school that we don't want to disrupt their lives.

My wife has a great job and her salary exceeds mine so my continued paycheck with Honeywell is not an issue. I have an electrical engineering degree with almost 20 years experience with less than ten years of it with Honeywell. There's nothing tying me to Honeywell and frankly I have no desire to work for them anymore. I've already started my new job search.

Phoenix is merely the stern of the Titanic. It may be high up now, but it's only a matter of time before it goes under as well. Only go if you get a free move to Phoenix and planned to go there anyway. Otherwise, so many better options in Redmond and Seattle area.

Heard everyone into one location, roll them all up into one big pool then Leadership says 5% need to go. Unless 1) Honewell is giving you a big raise (not) or 2) paying for your move (not) or if3) you really, really are tired of the rain and were thinking about moving south to retire and want to live in Phoenix area and only have a really short time left (I wouldn't tell them) and a little more paycheck to pay for the move, then do it. Otherwise for a regular employee with a lot of years left to go - leave HON. You will likely be happier and there is a good chance Hon will RIF you in Phoenix right after you get here.

Also, at the Deer Valley location, RF enginers are not given any special treatment. Management considers you to be just like any other engineer. That's because they don't know what it is.

Walking in from the parking lot in the winter, you can look forward to intense pollution from the nearby airport. The summers keep getting hotter and drier.

Already lined up a new job with Amazon. They are offering to let me set a start date up to a year from now. Unbelievable flexibility and respect for their engineers.
Thank you Honeywell. I didn’t even realize I was hanging around in preschool waaay past my time.
Now looking to convince some stay behinds to come with me. Honeywell is the wrong place to work RF engineering. Our skills are in demand.

Make sure you have your post-move compensation in writing or you may find out at the last minute, possibly after you move, that your pay will be adjusted to the Phoenix area COL.

Honeywell is not worth moving for.

No. Much like 90% of other early career folks I've talked to, there is nothing tying us to the company. I had offers before the announcement, and I am fairly confident I will have them after.
