Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Voluntary Severance Package

Cenovus is considering offering an "enhanced" voluntary severance package. Leaked details include:

The program will provide a lump-sum cash severance payment for eligible employees who elect to, and are approved to, retire from the company.

The severance benefits:

Up to seven full years of service - four months severance
8-15 full years of service - eight months severance
16+ full years of service: twelve months severance

The incentive package does not provide post-employment continuation of medical, dental, vision coverage or life insurance.

Interested employees will be encouraged approach their direct supervisor by the end of February.

@4uqd+19oVYirF - not sure if you have figured it out yet but as you can see from the fake HR posts on this thread alone, this is the last place you should be seeking truth.

This would involve management admitting their previous statements were wrong. Cenovus management never admits they were wrong.

Wow, cant believe all the garbage being said here. Unless your one step below Alex and in a HR role (at the highest level) , you must have telepathy that short circuited or something - OR- your a snitch in HR with real info , and I don`t think the latter applies at all!

Come on you guys, say something with REAL value or don`t say anything at all as there are people with actual lives, concerns and feelings out there!

Hope you see my point.

This isn’t happening. They’ve already announced this won’t be considered.

As Legacy Husky who did not make it through January 26th I'll give you my perspective. If you have 12 years or more and, depending upon your age, one is not "lucky" to make the transition to Cenovus. I am 100% happy to be out now with Husky rather than later with Cenovus.

(Legacy Husky - read between the lines)

I'm legacy Husky and have been lucky enough to have made it through these first cuts and I can confirm that there is no voluntary option on the table. This issue has been repeatedly thrown at management and repeatedly been shot down by top Executives. Not happening...

Why would anyone volunteer for this when severance is more? I guess if you're a top performer, have another job lined up and unlikely to be on the chopping block you might volunteer for this but how many people would fall in that boat?

Nope. Shaw offered such lucrative packages that it was almost unprecedented. That’s why they had around 3,000 people try and take them up on it.

But I guess in the end we shall now won’t we.

Your post @utx+19oVYirF states exactly why Cenovus will offer less lucrative voluntary packages. Look what happened at Shaw Communication in 2018.

It is happening prior to the next terminations scheduled for March 23rd.

They’ve repeatedly said no voluntary lay offs. Sarah and crowd are way way too afraid of a mad dash for the door. Plus they would not make it less lucrative then the current packages. Usually they are sweetening that pot because they want people to leave.

Our management would be embarrassed by the numbers probably of who would opt to leave.

6/18/2020 (Reuters) — Enbridge Inc, Canada's largest pipeline operator, said on Wednesday about 800 employees have opted for voluntary buyouts, as the company tries to reduce costs to tackle the COVID-19 crisis and the global oil price shock.

In an email response to Reuters, Calgary-based Enbridge said it was offering employees the option to voluntarily select early retirement, severance, leaves of absence or part-time work. "As a result of these actions, we won't need to pursue company-wide layoffs at this time," a company spokesperson said.

A voluntary severance package is a financial incentive that's offered to an employee in hopes that he will retire. Because the employee has made the request, it is traditionally less lucrative than the severance offered to terminated employees.

Post ID: @OP+19oVYirF:

This is definitely c-ap. How can this be an enhanced package when a lot of people that were laid off on January 26 (including myself) got better severance than what is listed here. For this reason, I don't believe that this information is true.
