Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

WHere's The Logic Or Savings?

The dust has settled ab bit and it looks like I'm getting an EXTRA layer of management not less!

Usual suspects avoid the chop, did anyone get let go from HR? I found out about just one today and he was the best recruiter we'd evr had. Safety? Finance? Our IT guys are great, time to check Inc and see if they've shown the good guys their the door. Wouldn't surprise me!

Yes, very interesting to see how many former managers from HSE were saved and brought over at the expense of many extremely capable and qualified subsurface staff! This is a total head scratcher! How does keeping higher paid managers save G&A? What is even more concerning is that most of them don’t even have experience working these assets! Seems like someone was saving his buddies rather than keeping the most experienced and qualified staff! Very little continuity left and it’s like having dozens of people starting over at a new company with new assets. Very poor decision making so far!

S—ing a– is what gets you there... but if we're seeing anything it's that we will layoff the real workers again next year. Everyone needs to have an mba to be left.. preferably from the correct school where they teach you to bend over.

I personally would like to thank Alex for all the new management. It’s heart warming to see so many unqualified people above me that create a warm safety blanket in the 2022 layoffs. Eventually the upper management will realize all the non productive dead weight sitting there at very high salaries and have to do something about it.

It’s also awesome how Sarah and crowd turned previous managers and group leads into individual contributors. These sweet ex managers displaced their own direct reports who were cheaper employees to keep. The managers kept their salaries and bonuses at their higher level while now doing the work of the lower paid folks. That’s just an excellent way to meet a target now isn’t it?

I overheard my own manager on a Teams session say how he would rather be an individual contributor than lose his job. Or in other words I would rather see my direct reports be let go than myself. Fair enough I suppose; but now I still work for this guy who clearly indicated he would punt me from my job to save his own skin. That’s motivating for you.

I’m fortunate enough to have two extra layers of management between me and Pourbaix. Don’t know what I would do without these two wholly unqualified “leaders” to tell me how to do my job.
