Raises

Can we speak to our direct manager about a raise besides the 2 percent if we feel we deserve it ? Has anyone done this and had it approved thanks

Pay is set in stone. You get what you get.

When I started at Sams in the bakery I was an excellent worker. Sadly, I was not the favored one in my department so I would get the high raise, but my coworkers would get the high raise plus the merit raise as they were close friends with the team lead and manager. I was so happy when a manager realized I had never received a merit raise after 15 years of working and gave me one. She was surprised that I had never received one after seeing what a great worker I was. Our club also had an associate that would beg to our GM, she was a fav of his, and then brag about the raises she received. I for one am happy corporate took the pay system over so the favoritism would stop. Now, if only home office would give us long term associates a big raise to catch us up with the newer associates. Yes, we will be retiring soon but we actually put in the time that the new ones won't and they keep giving them more to start with. They have little or no loyalty to Sam's, and certainly don't care about anything but themselves.

Those days are gone. I was fortunate enough to get a large raise just before it was shut down about 16 years ago, and then I've built on it. But those days are gone.

Compensation is no longer handled at club level. Went to the 2% annual increase a few years ago. Merit raises have been gone for years. And as far as I can tell evaluations are gone a well. So, you can ask for more, but you will probably be told to put in for a higher level position in the Club if you are looking for more than a 2% increase.

Can you? Absolutely. But it won't happen, its a "what you do for one you do for all" mentality. How do they objectively verify that you're more deserving than others? They can't, so they won't. Honestly, if hourly associates and managers hadn't abused the merit raise system, we would still be able to do this.
If you want a raise, the best thing to do is to take on more responsibility, you'll get a raise and if you choose to step down because it's too much, you won't lose more than you gained.
