Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Resistance is Futil

Hi All,

Some reading these posts might say this site is filled with losers, malcontents, poor performers, washed up old white guys (OWG) and dreamy eyed millennials. However, I REJECT that belief.

I have a more nuanced opinion: there really is a lot of pain within this industry among some and that pain is difficult. I feel your pain, I have been there myself. Many years ago I was fired from another company for being a poor fit. I did not see it coming; and, it did not seem fair to me at the time. I was in a lot of pain then.

Nevertheless, being a long time EM employee, I can tell you that those that don't fit are noticed by co-workers. We don’t want those with poor attitudes on our team as it makes performance goals harder to reach. Also, working around this type of co-worker is generally a drag.

With respect to EM, keep several things in mind: 1) resistance is often futile, 2) dreaming for different response from EM is delusional; 3) EM will never love you and 4) there are others out there happy to take your 6 figure job.

Sorry if I hurt anyone feelings. I did not mean too. I’m just giving you the view from some inside EM. You’ll be much happier when you go. I know you will and you know it as well.

Just go.

Thanks!!

Truth here. 30 years here and I can tell you this is true.

I wouldn’t say this site is filled with losers or malcontent or poor performers and your old white clout comment makes you sound like another racist pig. Exxon lost a lot of good people and the facts show they are now the losers.

Me personally, I worked for more than 25 years for this company.
And virtually everyday my goal was to destroy corporate socialism from the inside out.
And now I believe I've achieved that.

You want to take that away from me?
You silly bird.

I agree with you. I left several years ago and if I could turn the time clock back, I would have never joined a company with a disaster of work culture and lack of understanding what it means to provide real value and contribution.

The management is utterly clueless and prides itself of id–tic ideas about paper pushing and power point engineering as the gold standard. On one hand, I feel every second spent working there was life and zeal being s—ed out of me, but on the other hand, if I never worked there I would have not experienced what bad corporate America culture means. I am sure some employees at EM and some other tech companies may still be good but the lesson is to be careful in selecting (if you have a choice) who you work with or work for.

OP, ExxonMobil is a sinking ship, and admit it, you are just milking it for as long as you can. This company is so poorly managed that it deserves to fail. I left, and if I could turn back the clock, I would never have joined such a company that has no value for technical skills and promotes incompetent sycophants. Hint- making and endlessly revising PowerPoint slides that look nice but have no technical content, and flattering your bosses, is not actually work. I do agree that everyone with any technical skills and interests still working there should leave.

Why some of these subjects are so long? Can you not express yourself in fewer words? TLDR.

Poor performers are the only one complaining? Huh how about only the ones who haven’t been brainwashed?

I am a top performer and well taken care of by the company and still feel that this company is full of brainwashed disgusting people. I despise these talentless psychopaths and management.

importantly, the only reason I have been able to stay a top performer is by ignoring pleas of useful technical employees, by touting BS and acting busy with worthless things. I do not contribute anything valuable to the share holders and for the most part act like any other disgusting EM management. But this is the only way I can keep my rank and salary high.

This site is people airing their true feelings. Many people disillusioned with how large multi-tiered orgs work. It’s not merit based, but instead relies heavily on sycophancy and the outward person.

I'm not sure that someone complaining about their job needs to go anywhere, necessarily.
