Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

A company that doesn’t value creativity?

It made me laugh when someone said that COP is a place where creativity and passion go to die. It’s true! And why is that - because the company is now run by people without big ideas that create an atmosphere in which people should not have their own opinion.
They ignore the ideas of talented people and in the end those people take their ideas to competing companies.

Guess Black & White is dazed & confused........"short term" - guess they aren't concerned about their future lol. Real story - the only ones left at COP are the ones that are part of the "good ole boys" group and play follow the leader with blinders on. Guess that really works when you your just there for a paycheck and are clueless about doing a good job!!!!!

COP has an abundance of creativity. Have you seen the numbers the exploration managers used to throw around? Some major league “creativity” there. That’s why they’re all still around adding value.

COP has a $hit ton of assets and Biden is going to shoot the short term value of those assets through the roof.

There are two choices, get on the Gravy Train or go find more interesting work.

The only people at COP now are the ones that want and were smart enough to get a seat on the Gravy Train and they don't want it derailed anytime soon.

"It made me laugh when someone said that COP is a place where creativity and passion go to die." Is that because you posted the other comment too?

There are no good ideas unless your supervisor thinks of it. They have created robots in Bartlesville to do work but they don’t actually work but we still have to run them each month because management has told Lower 48 how great and wonderful they work. Now they are creating standardized worksheets that make the new robots job easier but will make it impossible to book the desks now.

There are two ways to get layed off: consistently get average or poor ratings (you can decide why/how) or be extremely competent and valuable yet challenge the status quo. Free thinkers and different opinions are viewed as disloyal and/or disrespectful.

Ask the (former) employees who challenged Deepwater.

A perfect example of non-creative thinking was (or still is) explorations ‘fast follower’ concept. How do you create value or get in on plays early when your strategy is to just follow other companies leads? It explains why COP bats 0 for 100 in finding oil organically. The scary thing is that the exploration leaders who push this concept kept their leadership jobs in this last round (UK accents help). You don’t fast follow in L48 plays, the better companies have the play concept and all of the land leased before our clueless explorers can open up Petrel.

Small people with small minds are running the ship aground. And if you dare suggest otherwise, or express any interest in anything other than agreeing with their plotted course, you’ll be thrown overboard next round. Full speed ahead!!
