Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Ops Managers are getting scared.

Team – As I’ve communicated for a significant amount of time, our overtime is not where it needs to be. We have too many people working 40 hours and a small number working significant overtime.

Our backlog is 7 weeks of work and we receive more each week then we are shipping. Our backlog is growing, and we are not performing to expectations. We will not hit our HPD results if we don’t correct this trend ASAP.

We have two weeks to course correct and increase our OT or the decision will be made to make it mandatory. We need to get our backlog under control. We cannot hire additional resources until we demonstrate the OT. We are on in control of our results.

Expectation is that you communicate this message in your Tier meetings. I will be joining Tier meetings to understand the feedback on why we cannot get there.

Come to my office directly with concerns.

@3til So true. I heard for at least the last 10 years that if "all of you" were working over 40 hours additional staff would be brought on board. It did happen a few times but the headcount always went back down for some reason. Either retirement or someone found a different job or got tangled up in a RIF. Never did the headcount increase and stay there.

OT is only OT if you get paid for it. For salaried people, it's just called free time. I don't work for free. I've seen this same game for years: saying that if everyone is working more than 40, it justifies hiring more people. They NEVER hire more people. Last July is all the evidence anybody needs to see that. The reason people aren't doing it is because it gets them nothing. Maybe if the management paid actual OT to salaried personnel, they might consider doing it.

Cheaper to pay OT then hire new people and pay benefits.

What they really need to see, to justify a higher headcount, is higher OT numbers, but not significantly higher production numbers. But, they can't tell you that...

They have always tried to cut OT in the 30 years I was there. Nothing to do on Monday and Tuesday but wait for parts then balls to the wall through Sunday. And the backlog was always there

OT is for fools.

Once the backlog is cleared, why would we hire additional resources? After all, you clearly can do the job without them. Keep working that OT folks (you might get a raise next year, or a PIP :)).
