Has anyone leveraged another offer to get promoted at HW?

Debating doing this or just hitting the door. Any past experiences on this?

We are definitely to blame for staying too long, hoping something will magically happen to make the workplace equitable. As for glowing unicorns like yourself, what are you doing here on the layoff site aside from taunting your inferior coworkers? Will that suddenly gig us into being more like you?You'd better hope not, since you thrive on being superior, because then you would have true competition.

Air of superiority? hell yes I think I am better than you. It's called competitive spirit.
Callousness of not caring about others? I care a hell of a lot more than people that don't care about anyone but them selves. Don't care about the company they work for, or the people they work with, including management. I will give anything to help a co-worker succeed, not hate the place they work and remain miserable.
Hubris? No. I have pride in my accomplishments, and the self-confidence to follow through. None of that is excessive.
There are plenty of snakes in the pit, spreading their venomous hatred for the company that employs/employed them, and the managers that work for them. I'm trying to claw myself out of the pit, while others grasp and cling and try to drag me back down.
If you are so damned unhappy at the job you do, you made the wrong choices, not anyone else. You are to blame, Not a company, not a manager, not an executive. You. You alone.

@1sbu/@1iub, you've got that terribly wrong. The people you spit on are also people who give/gave it their "all", postponed family time, vacations, medical care, kept going back to work after furloughs and sub-par raise claw-backs, "volunteered" extra billable hours, and still got or are getting scr–ed. That brings a huge psychological burden to well-intentioned employees who do everything they're asked to in good faith and are still met with the ELT's @$$.

What you have that we don't is an air of superiority, the callousness of not caring about others, and the hubris to express it verbally.

Remember, in order to have friends one has to BE a friend. You only have the other snakes in the snake pit. A lonely, soulless place to rot.

Business is a roller coaster and just maybe the people here are a little closer to front.
We are high in the air today, member of DOW, all champagne and stock options.
We were a member of the Dow before... and then not. Honeywell has crashed before... remember the LBoss days? Slurred speech at townhall meetings and all. Heck .. Honeywell is just a purchased brand name... should be called allied signal.

This is just another cycle and we happen to be at the top of the curve. Business is changing and the traditional winners for Honeywell aren’t going to get it done anymore.
Remember when we made a fortune making land mines and cluster bombs? What about those awesome computers? Thermostats? Guess we are back in the computer business.

How long have you all been calling this company a Titanic? 20...30 years???? The only thing sinking is your work ethic. If you are one to be constantly complaining about this company, or your place in it, then leave. If you have already left, then drop it, bury it, and move on. Nobody will ever care what you have to say about it again. We are very tired of your useless anecdotes.

Unless you have a good network with upper management, don't ever think of promotions at HW. You will likely by given no resources or a couple people in India and asked to handle the work of a 20 person team. Worse you will be expected to bring changes to groups totally outside your span of control. Next you'll get quizzed and beaten down on issues not related to your work statement.

May happen rarely for someone who would be a regrettable departure.
99 % of the time no way.
Trust me, your manager doesn't know the nuances of what you do.
Standard work documentation or not.
They look at you and your coworkers like pencils in a pencil holder.
Pick one, they all work the same.
They will just dump your work on someone else or split it up among the group.

Best case you get a raise and end up at the top of the salary scale.
Now you are stuck with no headroom in salary and right back looking for a new job.
Maybe good for one level bump but after that you are done.

It all depends. I once had a very good job offer, and was going to take it. I warned my boss about it. He and his boss put me on a fast promotion path and allowed me to write up my own job description. I stayed. That's the "1 in 10 event" though. The "9 in10" is:
(a) Your Manager tells HR then HR tells your Manager, "He's made up his mind... we don't negotiate... let him go. Oh, and if he's going to a competitor, have Security give him a cardboard box for his things and walk him out NOW!"
(b) Your Manager knows there's headcount reduction coming up and says, "Darn, sorry we couldn't do more to keep you, but (blah, blah, blah)"
(c) No one responds. Silence... but you start getting all the c-ap work, worse deadlines, and more "free overtime" to hasten your decision to quit.

ASIC/Systems. I had a job offer in 2016 and was recruited to stay at honeywell. Mgr arranged meeting with VP to offer me project of my choice and met salary offer. I stayed and enjoyed the greenhouse project i worked a great deal. Left 18 months later for what i thought was an even better opportunity. Wrong. Should have taken the first job.
Lesson learned. God opens doors for a reason.
It is almost never because he wants you to stay in the same place.
See a door.. take it. No door? Bust the f__ing wall.
Took me too long to learn that if you are supposed to leave you need to leave.

Going for a promotion within this company is like snagging a fancier deck chair on the Titanic. Why would you even think of doing this? Get out. Go to a company that respects and appreciates its employees and doesn't treat them as expenses to be rid of at their earliest convenience.

If you're asking this question, the other offer may not be as shiny or else you'd be gone already. So playing this game with this company HR is not a good idea. As for staying after a promotion, you'd be in the same mud pool just person higher.

This only works if your supervisor knows your value. If you have a clueless boss who doesn't even understand what you do, tough luck. Even if your boss knows your value, he may not do anything about it because it is out of his control. So many valuable people have left and this has been going on for years. The skill you need to stay is to be able to talk the talk. A yes sir attitude also keeps you below the radar. It's a pretend act, hollow in substance till it falls apart.

Wouldn’t try this unless you are okay taking the other job. If you are a 1, 2 or 4, they will go beyond to keep you. If not, be prepared to walk. Good luck!

Happens all the time. Remember HW is paying you the least amount possible to keep you around. It's just the way it is. If they need you, really need you, they can go 25 to 50% of what your making and even offer RTU's.
