Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Work/ life balance, what is it?

I don’t remember the last time I had that balance in this company. Because of that I'm considering accepting a job with worse pay than I have here.
Now that I look back, I see that I have completely subordinated my private life to this company for a paycheck that was enough just to pay the bills.
Worst of all, Sams is squeezing more and more.

No one wants a second job to survive. 1 should be enough regardless where it is. And that further separates you from the work/life balance. Split days off are ridiculous. You get less time. Those days are spent catching up on home stuff and errands etc. Had I not moved away from my last job that I loved but could not transfer over to.. I'd still be working mon-thurs.. 730-6. Every fri-sun off and could still take my daughter to school daily and be home for dinner and bedtime, fun on the weekends. THAT is work/life balance. Not split damn days and a 1-930 shift.

It's true, they don't want you to get another part time job. They want you available for them and only them.

@jse But it doesn't have to be that way. I worked at the Home Office for 10 years. My first manager was great. At least once a day he brought up your life/work balance. He would try to cut you loose early on Friday or just give you Friday off depending on the time you put in.

After those 2 years, the HO did a reorg. In those last 8 years, only once, did I hear the management team (notice I didn't say leadership) mention life/work balance. That's when I realized WM didn't give a $#!t about their associates.

Like I said, it doesn't have to be that way. That's why WM is one of the worst, bottom of the barrel choice jobs out there. They don't care about their associates, so the associates they do hire don't care about the job. Employment used to be a 2-way street of give and take. All WM does now is take.

That's why they split your days off. Give you all different shifts and ask you to keep open availability so you can't get another job even if it's part time.
