Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Does the market really determine salary?

How many people believe that Randall Stephenson's salary and retirement package reflected the market value of his contribution to shareholder wealth?

Because that is the fairytale that we have been told to believe that justifies income inequality. That anyone might believe that poppycock amazes me. No one is worth $30M a year and a retirement of $275K/mo. for life. And when you consider the financial damage he left behind the fiction is ever more exasperatingly stupid. Yet, that thinking undergirds our entire economy, and the media and our "leaders" both in government and private enterprise do everything they can to make us believe this nonsense. Just stop believing it. It's the first step.

Randall knew how to lobby government. First Net and lobbying Paul Ryan for tax cuts were the only value he added to T. Without government handouts T would be bankrupt. We dont have free market.

I made great money as a level 2. That is why I got laid off. Oh, and I was over 50 and not quite rule of 75. Nice, hey?

If Randall’s retirement were based on his positive contributions he would be paying the company back instead of cashing checks.

Remember, AT&T is not the sort of small, competitive firm championed Adam Smith. It is a large monopoly with govt contracts and patents. The market is greatly distorted by that and the Federal Reserve. That’s how they get away with bad mergers and pushing critical race theory

He needs to return every cent!! The company is worse off than when he took over by every objective metric!!

There is ABSOLUTELY no way in hell any CEO for any company should be making 3000 times the amount of the average employee. They’ve done a great job over the years conditioning the Pleb’s that this is normal and we should just genuflect at the Alter and appreciate their genius and greatness

If you can find any comparable companies that possess similar dismal fiscal performance record for the last ten years then I would agree. Unfortunately T BOD has no other companies to make a legitimate compensation comparison. I honestly believe throwing darts blindfolded at a target of potential acquisions over the past ten years would have yielded better results.

Income inequality?
How much would you give up to those who make less than you?
I, at T, made high 5 or low 6 figures for decades. Worked a lot of OT, storm damage.
How much should I have to give to the homeless bum or the non motivated slacker?
You can equalize all the income you feel you should. Start writing checks.
If jealousy paid, you'd be able to help a lot.

Kinda of an ironic question on a layoff board, c'mon, do you really think executive retirement compensation follows any of the norms for worker bees..

Most if not all of his retirement is not funded by the company. He hold's millions of shares of stock, large sums he invested in retirement plans in addition to his participation in the company pension plan.
Executive salary and compensation packages are in a whole other world. The board compensation committee looks at all other companies of similar size and financial strength. And then it's what ever the executives lawyer can negotiate.
