The longer you work for T the more you realize no one cares about your career. I’ve been here for over 3 years and what I've learned in that time is that the company does the OPPOSITE of what they say or promise. As a nice little bonus, management will throw you to the wolves if it means saving their own skin. Working here, you learn quickly you have to look out for yourself. At least I've never been better at saving, knowing it might come in handy to have a nice little safety net sooner rather than later.

truth - att is the worse place to work. nothing but a nwo cesspool.
It started getting bad about 5 years after the Bellsouth acquisition when we started with the T-Mobile bid started. Down hill from there.
Your experience varies from my own as I've had the exact opposite behavior from leadership and management on the teams and orgs I've been a part of in IT as a "manager" – the experience you post is not a AT&T specific problem, but a localized management or org issue.
I've been with the company nearly 15 years now under a few managers and leaders where all of them have operated in an ethical manner. I'm not discounting your experience as I've also heard of pockets of behavior like this, but thankful I've not worked under those teams...and often those managers or leaders implode when the their employees abandon them.
You have to remember to look after yourself. Document everything, so if something blows up you have the evidence to fall back on - and when someone gives a verbal demand, send a follow-up email asking to confirm what was asked and only take action once that has been confirmed in writing. This is your only true defense against c-appy managers or leaders, beyond just leaving the team.
Sorry you've gone through this and hope you land someplace that has a better team environment. Not all of T is bad.
It wasn't always like this...Just saying...35+ years before I saw the writing on the wall and got out with some decent benefits and a Covid interest rate boosted lump sum. This was a great place to work for most of my career. Managers who cared about the group and working without the sword of Damocles hanging over their heads. Interesting and rewarding work...until the last 10 years when it. started spiraling downhill.
Good luck to those still there. I hope the BOD recognizes and corrects their errors soon so y'all can finish off your careers as I did.
