Mr. Stankey has been quoted as reporting that he has identified AT&T's next 'growth catalyst' and is exited to share the good news on new revenue streams and subscriber growth right around the corner with Wall Street analysts. Stankey is said to have remarked that by laying off an additional 20% of legacy AT&T staff, the resulting financial savings would qualify him to meet his incentive performance payout of $25m in Q2.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Stankey is said to have modeled this transaction after his predecessor's deal to purchase TMO.
