Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

$$Worst Company I ever worked for$$

Now I am happy making $100/hr with 7 days off a week. I won’t tell you who I work for or what I do but I am now lower upper class after having left NS........

Thank you for staying and being miserable so I can have my retirement. I’ll spend the next 12 years better off.

I had 15 yrs as an engineer with NS and found a better opportunity relatively quick! Within a year I do make more than I did with a better schedule, better insurance and the treatment is far better. I run a crane now for a steel company, the jobs are out there you just need to make the decision to leave!

when you have 20 plus years invested into railroad retirement, it is hard to just walk away from it. if you get laid off with 20 years, it is hard to say no to a recall. that being said, it is a soul crushing experience to deal with all the c-ap on the railroad right now. good luck to everybody

Well let's put it this way if you are vested and have left either voluntarily or involuntarily, the people "too scared to step outside and improve their situation" will be the ones that will be bankrolling your retirement when you eventually retire and become a Drain on Society. Just Sayin

Hey if they want to stay and put up with all that’s went on, and all of what’s coming what do I care. I’m happy. None of my business if they are too scared to step outside and improve their situation.....

Georgia-Pacific, International Paper, Westrock, Pepsi Co, Coca-Cola, Frito Lay, Kraft Heinz, Anheiser-Busch, Amazon, FedEx, UPS, USPS, 3M, Tyson Foods, Perdue Farms, Dominion Energy, Duke Energy, Corning, Owens Corning, Proctor&Gamble, Vulcan, Martin Marietta, Honeywell, Sherwin-Williams, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Gerdau, DuPont,

All of these companies pay their maintenance mechanics or electro-mechanical people or electricians anywhere from very close to a whole lot more than NS. Every single company listed treats their employees way better than NS. It is mind boggling to me that people pretend anyone doing better outside of NS is lying. This is not even 1% of the opportunities out there. There are thousands of other companies not listed where you will bring home more money and often make more on the hour and also enjoy a better life. If you are intelligent, even having just a few years of experience at NS will get your foot in the door.
