Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

I’ve reached my breaking point

I’m not even going to bother with a 2 week notice. I’ve had all I could take and for the sake of my sanity and health I am finally calling it quits. Some may look down on me for it and I’ll probably be criticized royally for it. I’ve been doing 2-3x the workload and I just can’t do it anymore. I can’t sleep, I’ve lost weight and recently I’ve gotten an ulcer. I’ve spent most of my career here and it pisses me off to think AS got the better of me. But what can I do? My health comes first, damn it.

At the end of 2019 when they required everyone to sign an agreement stating we would not file suit against Allstate, that we would agree to go through a mediator for any issues that we have - I knew as well as others, that alot of Allstate employees were about to get screwed, and we did, and we can't do anything about it. Allstate has been cutting benefits since 2004. Yes, we used to have great benefits, great PTO, and Allstate CARED about their employees. That all ceased to exist in March 2016

I quit ON THE SPOT. Didn't owe Allstate an ounce of me anymore - and I couldn't stomach doing the job for the next 2 weeks until I left. You'll figure it out. F* Them :)

If you are going to a competitor they will not honor the two weeks so the day you give notice if you don’t want an unpaid break between gigs should be the last day you want to get paid

I know I have many options other than the one I chose and I thank all of you for bringing them up but I just need to separate myself from this place for my own good. I don't want anything tying me to it. If it's a mistake, so be it.

I’ve seen lots of great people leave this c-ap stain of a company over the last 6-8 months and it’s so sad. The ones that remain here on Survivor Island are being run into the ground while Tom mixes another martini in his bathrobe at 3pm and Glen the Grinch shakes his magic 8 ball until it tells him to ship more jobs to India at $8 hour. The fault huddles are silent and the morale is the lowest it’s ever been. Managers don’t even know where this ship is headed.

The sad thing is this is what they want you to do so they don’t have to pay severance if you quit but if you wait and get laid off when claims goes to India they’ll have to pay it so might want to stick it out

Go out on medical leave and find another job while you are out. Thats what I did! It took 2 months to find another adjuster position, I went out on leave until I found one. Came back for a day and quit. They dont give a hot ham sandwich about us! I dont give a ham about them! You are not in good hands!

Don't quit! Just scale back your production to "normal" levels. Screw them at this point. Get paid while you look. At this point Allstate doesn't matter. I know of almost no one that cares anymore so don't exert yourself for their unrealistic expectations. They don't care about any of us so why care about them? Let them pay you to find another job. Just skate by under the radar until you can leave with another job. That is pretty much what we are all doing at this point. You say you have health conditions so don't lose your health insurance until you have another job lined up.

I also have had high blood pressure issues and anxiety problems from Allstate. My doctor was appalled when I told him about what this company does and how it is run and he says it is a terribly abusive environment and to relax my duties and find another job. So that's what I did and what I am doing

Also short term paid medical leave may be an option. Look into that too. You are giving up too much just upping and quitting.

Completely understand, go on mental health leave with 100% pay for the first 5 weeks. Take some time to heal from this toxic gaslighting environment.

What can you do?

If you are going to quit anyway, why not just do 1x the work (instead of 2x and 3x) while you look for another job. Also, if you have some health issues, take the time to see doctors now, while you have insurance.

If they fire you for "just" doing your job, well, you're no worse off than if you had quit.

If they fire you, and it isn't "for cause", then you can collect unemployment while you look.

Think about whether you should just quit, straight out.

That said, a doctor advised me to look for a new job one time. He was right and I did.

Be careful. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. What you are experiencing is becoming more and more in the workplace in all industries, even in union workplaces.

I'm right there with you. No need to feel bad, do what's right for you. Hopefully you're able to ride it out financially, as you're giving up potential severance, and unemployment.
