Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Mass exodus due to benefits changes?

There will be a mass exodus due to the benefit changes. Loss of knowledge base and skill sets will cause more rework and re-hire of employees as contractors. Mark my words.

Stank and company are having wet dreams about driving people off the payroll. With outsouring support services as commodity, there is no incentive to put in the extra work. There will be an outflow of tribal knowledge, around home grown widgets that address messy problems and your TM, Accenture, IBM won't have any clues. The house of cards will be collapsing in due time, just you watch.

I agree 100%, the real stink won't even get to your 3rd line. Example; one contractor I worked with in IT for multiple years worked on a single issue for at least 3 weeks. After coming to me for help multiple times (I wanted the contractor to resolve on their own and kept giving clues) finally I gave the contractor the answer. Contractor response: Wow that only took 3 minuets to resolve!

AT&T won't even notice what's happened for some time.

Then something critical will break and days or even weeks will go by before it gets fixed because they either laid off, surplused or force retired the folks with the knowledge / expertise who could " save the day ".

( I know this because I'm watching this very scenario unfold right now with some legacy ASI hardware. )

That fire will smolder for quite a while but one day it will become an inferno that is impossible to ignore.

I spoke with a 2nd level manager today and the first words out of his mouth were, “everybody is retiring this year due to the elimination of retirement benefits!” I can’t say I was shocked, just didn’t realize how important this was to people. I would have thought at this particularly precarious time in our lives when jobs are scarce that people would be more concerned with a steady paycheck today and not worry so much about the future. Then again, with T you never know just how long those retirement benefits are even guaranteed until? Very sad state of affairs this company management has suddenly created for its employees in only the last five years and believe me, this is not due to Covid by any stretch! So T leadership can spin it any way they want to, I’m just not buying it!

It's so obvious you don't know what investing is.

They do a mass layoff right before the new year so when the the 'New Year' town hall happens to discuss numbers they can deceive investors...its all BS! They manipulate and lie about the numbers so investors will stay. So obvious!

Better yet, who will have the skill set to restore service to a large region because some nut job blew up a CO? Full service was restored in four days because they had the skill set to accomplish that! It’s was amazing and T should be proud of those employees instead of looking for ways to cut benefits and fire people.

It has been a slow squeeze for the longest time now. Who remembers the whole workforce 2020 initiative? Get rid of as many employees as they can before 2020. How'd that work out? Not very well considering they are still doing massive cuts.

There are subject matter experts that know the ins and outs of particular systems, and they are being forced to retire/pushed out due to benefit changes. Who will be managing those systems and who will be answering questions when things go wrong? It's been ongoing in my org for a while now. Let go of employees, things are taking longer to implement, questions are going unanswered, everything is an escalation, emails being ignored, all due to C-suite wanting to stuff their pockets.

Get ready for a rough ride in 2nd half 2021 and beyond if you're still around.

Everybody who becomes an ex-employee because of b—s— like pay and benefits cuts while the empty suits at the top are adding to their already huge piles, should make sure they become ex-customers as well (and encourage their friends and family to become so too).

It's great in the CO ... no-one calls us to fix anything anymore because they don't know what to do or ask. Money for nothing! Calls to India are never followed up by them to us ... so again money for free!

I have seen two scenarios play out. The 1st is people will leave to save their Medical supplement and the 2nd is people will try and hang on until they are 65 when medicare kicks in. Fortunately I am ready to retire so I will choose the 1st scenario and I am happy about it...Time to leave

Are you new to the company? The massive layoffs are going on 7 straight years now. The knowledge base is near extinction today and the re-education of racism has begun. This isn’t your legacy Bell company anymore. Let the past go because it’s not coming back.

After dealing with Tier 2 5E support in India and watching his "Q" go" idle every 10 minutes for hours, then come back with something that would crash the 5ESS, I'm starting to think that AT&T has found a way to hire dalits to do tech support.

You're missing the bigger picture. Yes, many people will leave but not as many as you might think. The real goal is to move the jobs to consulting groups or overseas and eliminate employees all together.
