Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Depends on the team, area of focus and your managers.
I'm paid well above average, the collegaues are essentially friends and our managers are sane enough to shield us from the upper layer sh– because they know us being comfortable makes their job easier.
Yet, there are teams on the same floor that I would quit within probation period due to nature of their work, their managers or just the collective.

I had good jobs with bad bosses, and bad jobs with good bosses. Nothing I experienced would make me call AT&T a great place to work. Pay was good, though, best I ever earned.

This company was never a good place to work since layoffs were an annual occurrence since the Bell breakup, however, the job I had with T was great with lots of freedom! Then, in the last couple of years when the massive reorganization started and I no longer did the same job function, but carried the same job title, everything went to hell! The immediate supervisors were clueless in their new rolls and became frustrated. Consequently, taking it out on their subordinates and it’s still this way, unfortunately! The only good thing at this point is there’s very little work, so it’s easy money! Not sure how long the gravy train will run!

It used to be a good company but now is one of the worst. The reason I think it changed is all the bad decisions like Tmobile, DTV, and TimeWarner that put a debt burden on T forced management to make up for these stupid decisions by treating employees as an easy expense to cut. When employees went from being an asset to being an expense in upper management eyes the environment became intolerable over time to where we stand today.

Heater repairman in hell. The boss was the devil. Never could get it hot enough for him in there.

The reviews are fake.

Every department at this vast organization has there own language. I saw glowingly positive reviews supposedly coming from my department containing verbiage and terminology that we would never use or even know the meaning of. I guarantee that morale is not sky high were we work.

The are no ethical boundaries that this company will not stoop below for their public image.

Was better at Leg-T before the SBC buyout.

Still better than the non-union, private owned company job I left before AT&T. Mission statement was "make me money no matter how bad you have to screw over the customer". Took away paid vacations and holidays AFTER you took them. This guy is now out of business,

Had guns pulled on me by customers several times then trying to collect payment for service call.

It might surprise you to learn that there are a lot of people, including myself, who’ve had positive experiences. Just like most corporations, some things are better than others. Having worked for both Verizon and T, and a few others major corporations; I know this is true. My position was an L2, involved a lot of travel, and a very competitive salary. Overall, it was a challenging, interesting position. I did not enjoy the constant anxiety regarding layoffs, reorganizations. Perhaps a lot depends on your position and attitude.....no criticism intended. Good luck.

“Great place to work” is definitely a stretch, but in my case I enjoy my job, make great money, and the company has definitely been good to me. Many forget how vast this company is, and how many different groups and roles there are. Not everyone is as bitter as the majority posting here.

With that said, the last couple of years have done a number to morale for even the most optimistic employees. I fear that it could get much worse before it gets better.

I'd like to take credit for doing my part. I short this _HIT stock daily for fun AND profit.
